ULEZ Compliance, Older Bikes.

The subject of ULEZ & historic vehicles came up in a conversation I was reading on the Triumph Owners forum & its seems that anything pre 1973 is considered as historic & therefor is exempt. My 1965 Stornello comes up as no charge, but my 1978 Spada is not exempt, despite it being registered as a historic vehicle. The TFL website says anything classified as historic is exempt so there is obviously a massive flaw in there system.

The entire system is a joke
I believe you have to register the machine as its newer to get the exemption
run by a lawyer to make money for him and his mates
if he was serious about pollution then he would retract that stupid government policy that allowed people to rip out their entire front gardens and fill them with cars. meaning no body walks, they waddle out of the front door and drive everywhere
its obesity that will kill far more Londoners than pollution

when the Breva was first introduced, every single press article stated that it complied with Euro 3
the Italians took the leap in environmental protection and banned everything old and smoky from the milenium
ergo the reason all those old 2 stroke scooters were scrapped, and then later restored

I don’t know about the press articles, but the CoC clearly states just Euro 2. Perhaps because, in 2003, Euro 2 for PTW had only just been applied: European emission standards - Wikipedia
The fact that it IS Euro 3 (and 4!) compliant in reality is a bonus. I guess you object to paying for a CoC doc., but it doesn’t take many runs into London for it to become worth it.
Of course, you can do what I did and just leave London (and the UK) altogether!

I sent the morons at TFL several copies of the articles, and close up images of the CATS, quite clearly and legally stamped
TUV
EURO 3
no luck
but you have to understand this is a multi billion pounds business empire, that is not run by TFL but by outside contractors in many other countries, all partnering and schmoozing a small clique, and creating long term employment, and wealth streams for a small clique
to improve air quality in London
stop pavement parking, make people walk, restrict the size of cars that can use the streets , AUDI Q8s ??? in a small City, restrict the amount of cars per household
range Rovers blocking streets, ask my brother about the fire engine that could not access his road, and the bloke thats house burnt did not even own a car !!
restore front gardens, and remove the fleets of people carriers that fill them , stop people driving one mile to work, where my elderly father lives, a woman drives three quarters of a mile to park here car near to the station ??
one neighbour drives to the shop, half a mile to collect a paper in the morning
I hate driving in London now, its full of SUVs, and bully cars, , motorcycles and powered two wheelers should be encouraged, except those morons using them to rob and steal from the public,
but in this Country there is a culture of importance and social status attached to an expensive motor car

I take the coach from Cheltenham, and walk the last 6 miles to my parents house, its less stress all round, and as I cross Chelsea Bridge I look at all the morons sitting in big cars wasting their life,
I hate driving anyway, and after two attempted bike thefts while riding in London I am wary
(all part and parcel of Living in a big City according to Mr Khan , who never travels without a fleet of armed coppers )
( easy to spot, one particular demographic, clothing style, and type of scooter used)

Oooh!
Thanks Don,
Just checked my 1980 Spada. It too is classed as historic but the Ulez checker says I have to pay

On the otherhand my BSA Bantam that smokes like a laboratory beagle IS exempt.

Same. 1979 T3. One checker says : Historic, exempt. Another says not exempt. Confusion intended, I imagine. Wasn’t planning on going anywhere near, anyway.

The TFL checker has never been accurate for identifying exemptions based on historic tax status. Which when you consider how long ULEZ has been in operation prior to the first and second expansions is a bit poor. There’s articles in the press going back years on this topic. That’s why they put out the clarifying statement that if your vehicle is UK registered with historic tax status then you are exempt.

When you go into the zone they take your plate and ask DVLA for your details and as long as you are registered as historic tax status with them then you are fine.

just take a look at some of the other things the system is liable to do

by the way the Met Police can access data from the entire camera system to use in crime prevention

Systematic processing should be interpreted as meaning one or more of the following:
• O ccurring according to a s ystem
• P re-arranged, organis ed or methodical
• T aking place as part of a general plan for data collection
• C arried out as part of a strategy
Examples of activities that may constitute a regular and systematic monitoring of data subjects include:
• operating a telecommunications network;
• providing telecommunications s ervices ;
• email retargeting;
• data-driven marketing activities ;
• profiling and s coring for purpos es of ris k as s essment (e.g. for purpos es of credit s coring, establis hment of ins urance
premiums , fraud prevention, detection of money-laundering);
• location tracking, for example, by mobile apps ;
• loyalty programs; behavioural advertis ing;
• monitoring of wellnes s ,
• fitnes s and health data via wearable devices;
• clos ed circuit televis ion;
