The UJ on my lovely V50ii went south at the weekend, with catastrophic results. Short of shelling out for a complete new cardan shaft (£200+) my best plan seems to be buying a used one with decent splines at the drive box end and replacing the UJ bearing. Does anyone know of a supplier for this? A previously referenced manufacturer (CPS Drivelink) have gone out of business. Are there other options I haven’t considered?
I know a source, but bit abroad. Italian rotavators use it. Actually got spare one on the shelf and can buy another one directly at the source, so if you can’t find anything - we’ll find the way:)
Thanks Adamigo: what sort of money are we talking about?
Probably Euros!
Sounds like you have the driveshaft and UJ sorted. We had similar experience with a Monza. Glued the lip on the back of the gearbox together with Araldite and lined it with the top end of a domestic bleach bottle for extra strength. The big problem comes if there is damage to the crownwheel and pinion in the bevel box - they must be renewed with a matched set otherwise they will wear dramatically. Good Luck!
In region of 30 quid.
Thanks for that!
I’ve actually got a spare rear transmission cover from a donor gearbox with a fully intact driveshaft tunnel so I won’t need to resort to bleach bottle reinforcement on this occasion! But your story takes me back 40 years to an episode in remote northern Portugal when I made emergency roadside repairs to my Ducati 450 using shims made from a Coke can.
