V100 Rattle

Had an off beat rattle on the right hand cylinder, there is a service bulletin advising to swap out decompression rocker for an updated part and if that doesn’t cure it then remove , there’s no replacements yet so it was removed………engine feels even more smoother

MY V100 S which is only 6 months old rattles on the right hand cylinder but only if not started for some time. Took it to my dealer for it’s first service and was told I would have to leave it with them because they would do nothing till they heard the noise. I did not fancy walking 50 miles home so jumped on the bike. I was annoyed because one of the guy’s their said it was a lubrication problem and another one said it was the decompresser. They also said their was a bulletin on the subject however neither believed me whe said my bike had this problem. I intend to video the bike with it’s rattle and if they still don’t believe me l will buy a honda.

Don’t buy a Honda 1000 or 600 they’ve currently got oil consumption issues…I was asked for a video, but the mechanic had several videos already which I viewed and quickly identified as the same as mine , so they happily removed item, apparently will do no damage if left in, the dealership is MSC Nottingham, whom I’ve found to be very helpful and accommodating

Hi cali1963, No I will not buy a honda because I like italian bikes to much. It’s the dealers attitude I don’t like. This is my second v100s because the first one had several faults including a wonky third gear. The one I have now is much improved. It’s a shame about the tapping noise but I hope to get it sorted

My Stelvio V100 does the same and it sounds like a hydraulic tensioner losing pressure when standing , it takes about 60 seconds to clear ,

Local dealer says it is an acknowledged issue on the motor and if it continues they will replace the tensioner under warranty

Thanks for letting me know about your Stelvio. That’s bound to be the same problem with my v100s. I’ve only heard the rattle a couple of times but it needs sorting. The bike has only done a thousand miles . Good luck with your Stelvio. Peter

Brand new Stelvio 2026. Mine does the right cylinder head rattle when fully warmed up and at base idle. Anything higher is goes away. I assume it’s centrifugal. I only have 200 miles on it but will take it in to the dealer for the removal/fix. Thanks for the info.

@wpatton5894 please report on how that goes. My dealer made an enquiry to their Piaggio technical rep who said they knew of no directive to remove the decompressor.

As an aside and as the OP reported that the bike runs more smoothly without it, it amuses me to think that maybe Guzzi only fits the thing to give the V100 a more authentic spluttering startup that makes it feel more… Guzzi.

Does anyone have access to the Service Bulletin. I have a brand new dealer here in Salt Lake City. I’m sure it will be a little tricky (difficult) for them to jump in to Moto Guzzi world and find what I need. Thanks

Thanks for the info everyone but the dealer couldn’t get good info from the tech support so I gave back the Moto Guzzi and left with a GS 900 Adventure. Good riding all and thanks.
