V100 Touring Screen

Has anyone fitted a touring screen to their V100? And if so does it make a difference from the standard screen. Thanks

On its own, the Guzzi touring screen is a waste of money. Combine with a Chinese ā€œlipā€ and there is a welcome change.

There appear to be 2 aftermarket screens that are long enough to make a difference: the Puig Touring Screen and a CalSci long screen.

But AFAIK, there have been no reviews of either of these devices.

I have got the Guzzi touring screen with Chinese lip and can attest to its efficacy.

I am not, however, optimistic as to the long-term ability of the somewhat flimsy screen operating mechanism to cope with the excess loads imposed by the extra weight and wind loading of the aftermarket alternatives.

Iā€™ve fitted the powerbronze screen to mine, much better than the Guzzi version, I ride with the visor up quite comfortably at 50mph

I believe Givi do one as well which is quite well reported on elsewhere. Its what I am considering myself although given the electric up and down seems to be struggling a bit with the OEM touring screen im not sure yet.

I had an intermittent problem with mine at first, until I altered the settings in the menu, since the itā€™s worked fine.

Can I ask what settings these were?

AFAIK, you can only alter the road speeds at which the screen will move (this is to avoid stressing the screen mechanism) so that the screen raise/lower cuts out at lower mph for taller screensā€¦

Thanks. Seem to remember that its set for less than 60 mph.

I fitted a Powerbronze screen to mine, for last yearā€™s European tour. It is a little taller than the standard screen, but quite a bit wider at the top. I canā€™t say that my helmet sits in still air, but it does take some pressure off my shoulders, which is welcome on a long run. I like the look of it, so left it on.

Actually, in the ā€˜Launcherā€™ configuration menus thereā€™s a setting to toggle between standard and touring screens. Iā€™m assuming this increases power to the servo for the bigger screen.
I canā€™t remember exactly where it is, but I think itā€™s in the ā€˜vehicleā€™ bit.

No - all it does is affect the road speed above which the screen will no longer move when the buttons are pressed.

The theory being that this speed is lower for the touring screen as opposed to the stock item.

Getting my bike back today the only negative issue I have is the OEM touring screen doesnā€™t move up or down without gentle encouragement. Next time Iā€™m in Gloucester i will get dealer to have a look.

After spending a bit of time on the internet Iā€™ve ordered the Powerbronze touring screen as it appears to be one with largest difference, at circa 6 inches taller than standard. Personally I prefer the shape of the Powerbronze (individual taste obviously). Be interesting to see how much difference it makes and particularly if it reduces the wind noise at all at motorway speeds.

Rather superbly, the Powerbronze screen arrived today less than 24hours from ordering! Fitted in 5mins and now awaiting a road test. I went for the ā€œLight Tintā€ which Iā€™m very pleased I did as you can still see through the screen clearly, which you definitely need to be able to do with it at full height. Road test update to follow.

This image is with the screen at low setting for electric adjustment.

Just completed 60 miles with the Powerbronze tall screen installed and whilst not as tall on the bike as it felt when installing, it does make a significant difference to wind noise at all speeds and takes reduces wind to the upper body almost completely at motorway / fast A road speeds. I wear moulded earplugs and with these in there is practically zero perceptible wind noise below 50mph with the screen at its highest. Above 50 wind noise becomes apparent but at a level that would say is circa 30% of what I experienced with the standard screen at full height.

The screen in itā€™s lower position is about the same height as the standard screen in its raised position.

With Powerbronze screen in the raised position the top of the screen covers the area of road about 2 car lengths in front of the bike so you are not looking through the screen at all unless at very low speed manoeuvring or maybe youā€™d want to lower it for filtering. Therefore if you prefer the look of a darker tint it would not be obtrusive. I am 5ā€™8" so the impact of the additional screen height will change for you accordingly. My initial concerns about looking through the screen turned out to be nothing.

It fits the bike well and I like the profile of the screen. What is apparent is that whilst solid and well made, it is not same rock solid quality of the OEM screen which is definitely a thicker more robust plastic. That said there was no noise or vibration at any of the speeds tested thus far.

Very pleased and therefore it will stay as a permanent fixture. Remember that UKFORUM1 will entitle you to a 10% discount from the Powerbronze website. Cheers.
