After 4000 miles, I’m happy with the original Michelin tyres, which are barely worn, how many miles have you got out of yours and has anyone recommended replacements ???
My v100s is fitted with Michelin Road 6’s - done 14,000 on the pair and still plenty of wear left.
Now that is hugely impressive! Hope I can look forward to the same when I get Michelins back on.
Yes indeed - they had 11,000 on them when I bought the bike last August, but had plenty of wear for a 2,000 mile ride around Scotland in September. Saw quite a bit of heavy rain but the tyres were still confidence inspiring. I’ll be sticking with the Road 6’s when I fit a new pair sometime this year.
Just a question? Is it verified the 11k before you bought it were all done on the Michelins? I thought that from the factory they all came with Pirellis? Maybe the first owner trashed them early or just didn’t like them? I’d be delighted with the Road 6’s if I got 10k on what is a heavy bike.
My 2024 V100S has Michelin 2CT+ fitted from new
Well I stand corrected that OEM tyres were not always Pirellis. Thank you.
Tyre choice has forever been a highly subjective argument between different riders/machines/conditions. I would not presume to controvert anyone’s opinions and experiences. Handling and longevity for me is the elusive primary balance followed by cost. I admit to being a huge Michelin fan over the last 20 years especially having rejected Bridgestones, Metzelers, Pirellis and more on heavyweight sport tourers, mainly Kawasakis. None of them I would condemn as “bad tyres”. They simply did not give me the feel and confidence I sought. Go back a further 20yrs before that and the bar has just gotten immeasurably higher along with bike performace. For me, Michelins have consistently inspired confidence over the others while, at the same time, stretching my pennies further. To be able to confidently expect two full seasons out of a pair at least and still performing acceptably is a no brainer.
The prospect of 14k miles on a Mandello out of Road6’s is plenty argument for me to part with the £300+ asking price. Additionally I have always fitted my own tyres so I save on that too. What more can I say?
I am a true believer but happily accept “to each his own!”
Yes - I bought the bike with 18k miles on it - road 6’s were fitted at 8k miles (I’ve the invoice). The bike has now done 22k miles and the Road 6 still have some wear left.
Gotcha! That is indeed impressive and convinces me, if I needed any more, that they are my first choice for the Mandello.
Betweeen 2006 and 2024 I had a total of 4 1400 Kawas. Two GTR and two ZZR’s. Big, heavy monster HP machines. Over progressive Michelin fittings from original 2CT, Road 4 and 5’s I went from 4-5k out of a rear with two to one rear to front changes. By the Road 5’s I was up to 10k rears and one to one fr and rear changes. No serious loss of performance towards end of life though I was never one to push to showing the carcass before changing.
The Mandello is a good 100lbs lighter than the Kawas so I am hopeful I will do as well as yourself! My bike still has the original Angel GT’s on at just 5k miles and I suspect might get another 2k out of them but I am less than enthused about especially the front. If I can afford it I am prepared to sacrifice some of the remaining life of the Pirellis and change sometime in the Spring. Looking forward to that! Dave
I’ve got less than that on road 6 on v85tt, front has plenty left but the rear is done at 8.5-9k.
I am happy enough with that as it’s the most miles I’ve had out of a rear tyre on this bike.
At the end of the day as one on a limited budget and, at 74, no longer clocking up the yearly mileages I did in the past, a couple of years out of a pair takes the sting out of the premium prices for top tyres.
