V50 Brake Pads

Just getting close to completing my V50 II restoration. I’ve rebuilt all the calipers and rear/front master cylinder and replaced the remote front master cylinder with a new Brembo bar mounted item. What pads give the best braking performance? Any advice would be appreciated.

I might suggest EBC FA047 or Ferodo FDB207 - years ago when I had the LM, I tried Ferodo after years of sticking to the stock Brembo ones, the difference in feel and stopping power was a revelation. One of those cases where you wished you’d done it much earlier.

Thanks Mike. I’ve used Ferodo pads on cars in the past with good results (Gen7 Toyota Celica. Notorious for sub standard brakes) I’ll go with those :slightly_smiling_face:

Also avoid sintered pads on older vehicles where parts may not be available as they wear out discs quicker

Good advice! My discs are only just in spec and new ones are hideously expensive.

I ought to mention the V7 850 Special E5 (2021) currently has EBC, semi-sintered I think, interestingly the front Brembo caliper is exactly the same as was on the Ural 750; the extra bite of these pads (not by a massive amount, but something) is useful because of the extra weight of the sidecar.

Similarly I put EBC’s on the Ural for the same reason, and the retardation was superior to stock.

The AJS Cadwell 125 also has EBC at both ends, simply because the stock (Chinese) factory pads were garbage. The friction material just looked weird, not like any other I’ve ever seen. The rear brake now actually feels like it’s doing something, and the front brake mostly needs just 2 fingers.
