I recently had to replace the inner tube in my V50. When I did it, I just pulled one side of the tyre off the rim to slide out the tube and slide in a new one. After leveling the tyre back on, I inflated the tyre to 60psi to get it seated in the rim and then dropped it back to 32psi.
Its now not straight on the rim, when I spin the wheel I can see a wobble and feel it when I ride. Ive pulled that side off the rim again, checked the tube is straight, reinflated and got the same result. The tyre is a Metzeler ME22
Could it be a damaged tyre? Is there anything else I should try?
Are you sure you haven’t trapped the tube under the edge of the tyre bead, have you used any lube to seat the tyre properly, that’s all I can think of to resolve the problem
Not sure is is particularly good practice, TBH. It works with bicycle tyres, but on a bike?
If you do this, you will need to partly inflate the inner after inserting it, and then work around the rim to settle it. Not sure what quality of inner you have bought, but there should be a marker line around the outside which should be a straight line when fitted on the rim. You should also liberally dust with chalk dust before trying to put the tyre (CAREFULLY) back onto the rim.
I’d recommend you take it to a tyre guy who does bike tyres, rather than find yourself in a hedge…
I remember the old big-block alloy wheels were an absolute pig to get the beads ‘popped’ on and seated properly - stupid amounts of psi and lube needed. There’s usually a line around each sidewall that should be concentric with the rim, is that so?
