1.how do you know that, is red light on or there’s no light but no voltage too when measuring the circuit on running engine? I’d say, on bigger then low revving engines quite popular thing were the rotors, so dismantle brush holder and check conductivity between two copper rings. If nil, then rotor is at fault, not letting red light to go on btw.
