V7 850 fuel cap

Hello, the fuel cap on my V7 850 has stopped doing the “click stop” when refitting it, meaning that it can be over tightened and actually make contact with the tank surface, care needed to close the cap now. Can I get a replacement cap and fit my lock into it or does anyone know if it can repaired?

I found this article which may be of interest to you . There is also a used V7 cap on Ebay for sale including keys plus looks like an ignition barrel. Over £100 to buy! I couldn’t find instructions to repair a cap though but maybe you could try a tinker. Good luck

Good morning, thanks for the article, looks excactly like the solution for me, new cap is 270£ for the lock set.

looked on ebay and theres also a non locking one for a V9 bobber for 155£ I think not!

checked Fowlers and Stein Dinst and a genuine Bobber one is 58£ so if I can’t source a Triumph one quick and local I think thats the way to go. Once I’ve got something sorted I’ll have a tinker with the broken one…dare not until I have something to use.

On my 850 when it did that I just turned the cap upside down and squirted some GT 85 into the works ( not the lock barrel) and the click came back after a while.

Update, found that the V9 Bobber fuel cap is the same but no key lock on it. something I didn’t want in the first place so that has sorted the problem for me.
