V7 850 Handlebars locked

On my 2022 850 V7 the ignition lock bears the legend push with an arrow circulating to the left anti-clockwise with a padlock symbol. However when the key is pushed down it will not turn and apply the steering lock. The lock is applied by turning and not depressing the key. Obviously I am misunderstanding something here. But what?

Try turning the handlebars to the left when you put on the steering lock, and if that doesn’t work, move the bars around until you feel a “notch”
Best of luck!

Thanks for taking an interest but maybe only owners of the current 850 V7s will know the answer. As my query shows when the handlebars are rotated to the required position, the key can be turned to the “LOCK” position (and the steering is locked) without the key being depressed. When the key IS depressed the switch will not move in any direction and moving the bars through the lock to lock arc makes no difference.
I can lock the steering and remove the key. Everything works just fine.
My only concern is that the lock does not operate as described in the handbook and this may indicate a fault or it may just be that MG or their suppliers have changed the specification of the lock.
I have two 2022 850 V7s, a special and a stone. What I describe above applies to both.

Mine is a 2021 V7 850 and in this case the key has to be pushed down only halfway, if not key won’t turn. In other words, key won’t turn if not pushed at all, neither will it do so if pushed to the very bottom. It has to be halfway. As you might imagine this may be quite awkward to do, as you have to find the ‘sweet spot’. But after a year’s ownership to practice in, I’ve got good at doing it now. Obviously there’s some sort of notch or something, to allow the barrel to pass at a certain height; yours is too high, mine is only halfway. Could depend on shims or something but I really don’t know. :grinning:
