Actually having a working kill switch on my V7 I am wondering if it should be used routinely to stop the engine or only in an emergency.Â
With the modern bikes having all sorts of funny software running I have been told to leave the ignition key in for about 10 seconds after switching it off as the engine management system sorts itself out.
So, kill switch or ignition key to turn off the engine?
All the best,
David.Â
I never use the kill switch, and I don’t think I would unless the bike was running and laying on top of me. Others may differÂ
I would hope the system was designed so you could use the kill switch with no ill effects.
Who told you you have to leave the key in for 10 seconds? Sounds like nonsense.
I don’t like to use the kill switch on the X10 to stop the engine only because the headlights will stay on. That’s one niggling thing about the X10 the only way to get ‘side lights’ only is turn the ignition on but not start it. So park lights they ain’t.
I work on the “Use it or loose it” approach. I habitually use it when I get home at night to leave the head light on while unlocking the gate.
Bloody useful around spooked horses.
Sure nuff sometimes you want the headlights on.

I use the kill switch on my V7 II if I’m stopped at the side of the road. This way the the rear light stays on, the headlight stays on for a short while then reverts to side light only. Quite clever I thought.
When I first got the bike I went looking for the light switch… I’m not aware of any way to get parking lights, unless you leave the keys in… not recommended!
Exactly!
the the rear light stays on, the headlight stays on for a short while then reverts to side light only.
Does it indeed? Maybe should try that with mine.
