V7 Racer 2015. Not charging

Hi, looking for some advice.
System is not charging, checked across battery. Stator is showing no resistance, 0 reading. Regulator rectifier is showing open circuit on both poles.
are there any readings I should have? Are there any other checks I can make.
If not it looks like I am in the market for a new (quality) stator and regulator. Any advice on where to obtain these from.
Thanks in advance.
Glynn

Have you tried Gutsibits?

Not yet. But i will. Thanks

Gutsibits buys them from here

Might be wrong but I don’t think this type of rectifier / regulator can be tested with a multimeter. The stator is a centre-tapped single winding, the centre being positive output to battery (etc.), and the opposite ends are alternately connected to ground within the regulator by thyristors aka SCR’s, which are switchable diodes. Without the signal to turn them on they won’t conduct. I.e. appear to be open-circuit.

Zero Ohms or nearly for the stator winding sounds OK, it means there are no breaks in the winding. (?)

I think…

Thanks. That gives me a bit more to go on.

Hi Glyn

zero resistance on the stator suggest no problems there. You can do a functional test by unplugging the connector for the reg. Identify the pin locations in the stator plug which correspond to the leads from the stator. Start the bike up. With your multimeter on the 600v AC repeat AC setting, check the voltage between the leads. At idle it will be around 50v, but will rise rapidly to 300+v if the engine is revved. So long as you see voltage like this the stator is perfect. It very rarely fails anyway.

The most likely culprit is the reg which can overheat and die if it is not properly earthed. Available through Gutsibits or you can buy a 5 wire reg on ebay and swap the plug - half the price. Whichever way you go, clean up the mounting area for the reg on the frame as it is its only form of earthing. Better still take a wire from the engine earthing point or battery -ve and connect it to the reg via a mounting bolt. It will not fail again and your bike can sometimes run better because the ECU is not seeing a fluctuating voltage from the reg. Hope this helps. Mail me on guzzimesietr@aol.com if any questions. cheers Jon

Thanks very much Jon. I will get those checks done. But it is looking like the regulator rectifier,

Thanks for the advice. Reg/rectifier replaced. All sorted.
