Silly me. Too much engine oil school boy error. Yep oil in the airbox. As part of my clean up I took off the breather hoses plus the clear cap. I connected the lhs hose back but cos I’m an old duffer can’t remember if the cap goes on the longer middle connection spigot and the rhs hose goes on the shorter one. Just to reassure me a pic of your V7 airbox breather connections would be great. Why didn’t I take a quick pic myself is a good question isn’t it 
I added a velocity stack and DNA filter to my V7 850 today and thought I might be able to grab you a picture, but I never looked closely at the outside of the airbox.
The inside had a tiny amount of oil in - presumably from the main dealer overfilling a little at the 900 mile service. Really was a small amount.
Anyway, I was looking at stuff on eBay and found an airbox listed with plenty of photographs- which may be of use to you?

Thanks for that…does seem that the cap in question does go on the middle longer spigot
