Is it normal for the V85 gearbox to be quite noisy? Im getting a solid clunk when shifting, especially at town speeds. It feels really slick, just the loud clunk.
Im used to silent Japanese gearboxes
Yes seem to notice in lower gears especially if I forget the ear plugs.

Sometimes I notice 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third is a bit clunky, but disappears presumably as the oil warms up. I think it smooths out and gets a bit quieter as the miles accrue. That’s what happened with my previous two Guzzis both 1200 air cooled Stelvios.

mine still clunks into first at nearly 35k miles, first to second makes a clack sound.
changing 3rd to 4th is very smooth and quiet. I found for the first 5k-6k miles things felt very tight and gear changes clunky if not done at exactly certain rpm, after that it got less fussy.
still not as smooth as a suzuki, but much smoother than a cali.

Not a V85 but my V7 Sport sounds clunky but feels smooth if that makes sense. All the review videos I watched before purchase and since, you can hear the gear change clank on the audio. In use, I’ve been surprised by the disparity in sound to feel and operation.

Thats my experience, it feels really slick but sounds really clunky.
My 2024 V7 is like that after 3400 miles. The shifts in early gears when cold are a bit sticky and a bit noisy but even when warmed up and from third to fourth there can be quite the bang even though the shift feels smooth.

“Curious thing” pretty much describes all Moto-Guzzis. They are not normal bikes and I like that.
Not sure how old the bike is, but I would pull the back wheel and have a look at the damper rubbers in the wheel. They may be compressed/worn.
