Im thinking of fitting a Mistral X Trail silencer to my E5+ V85TT. I know its not going to get much louder and thats fine with me. Will it get me a deeper, more bass heavy tone? Every video I can find has the full system fitted so I can’t find what just the silencer will sound like.
When I bought my V85 it had a GPR silencer and standard headers etc. I tried the OEM silencer to see what difference there was regarding the sound - very marginal. But when I de-catted it - wowza! That plus: the weight saving, less heat, and easy access for oil changes. Later I fitted a twin boost, velocity stack and k&n filter. But fitting the y pipe made by far the biggest change.
I suggest you look at the Zard, definitely a deeper tone, and removal baffles, well sleeves really, easy to fit 10 minutes. Remove top bolt from rear foot rest to make access to clamp easier. But apart from the sound, there is a distinct performance advantage, crisper throttle response and better mid and bottom end, using a DNA air filter helps as well.
changing the silencer alone doesn’t change performance, certainly e5 onwards it has no effect other than nicer sound (and less weight).
I’ve seen an e5 v85 ridden with no silencer at all and it made hardly any difference, the sound reduction takes place in the downpipes and cat box.
incidentally the bike i heard with no silencer did have a zard which was taken off for cleaning at the time, owner later did a decat and the zard sounded very nice, definitely a good alternative to mistral, nice bassy note to it as you said
Maybe, it’s psychological then, but I definitely felt it made a difference, or maybe I just opened the throttle more ,due to the better sound, that’s on an E5+ Strada, Zard claim on their website it gives improved response and better torque, I know the cat and downpipes restrict it ,but as mine is still under warranty. I did not want to do the decat option, also compare to the standard exhaust, you can feel the pressure out of the end cap on the Zard.
