V85 tt, advice on silencers etc.

Hello there, I wonder if anyone out there has an opinion on what aftermarket silencer for a V85 tt is best, or are there any duff ones around ?
I am tempted by a gpr trioval, and understand that it is wise to fit a booster plug?
I would be interested in second hand items of these and perhaps a lower seat, if any one knows of these parts for sale.
Thank you for your anticipated help.

Define best. Is it the sound, or the looks? Sensible to get something that is approved for road use in the UK unless you want to argue with a picky MoT tester. None of them produce any significant bhp boost.

As for the booster plug - opinions vary. Some say it’s an expensive resistor that tries to fool the ECU into stuffing more fuel in to enrich super lean low rev running. Others say it solves everything. None of the booster plug manufacturers offer a convincing explanation of what it actually does. You will have detected I’m not convinced.

Hello, I guess I was thinking of power and better, less restricted breathing really, as well as the weight saving as the bike does feel top heavy.
I note what you say about the booster plug.
Thanks for the feedback.

removing the cat and replacing it with aftermarket system saves about 5kg, mostly from the bottom of the bike ofc so doesn’t help if you feel it is top heavy.

booster plugs don’t solve everything, but they are about £300 less than a remap kit from G corsa and do give more pull from lower rpm, meaning urban riding around 2500 rather than 3000, stronger midrange. no big effect on top end but i don’t think anybody buys a v85 for top end, low and mid range torque is improved which is what people want guzzis for.

mistral do explain what the booster plug does, it’s not very complicated, it lowers the temperature reading for 1 sensor which in some situations means a richer fuel mix. depending how you ride the impact may be minimal as the ecu does not always consider this sensor when adjusting fuel mix, it ignores it at low throttle openings (e.g. on cruise control at sensible speeds in top gear)

the total power increase if you cat delete, change the air intake venturi, and add a booster plug is about 5.5hp, the torque increase and smoother running are the main reasons to fit one.

changing the silencer has 0 effect on torque or hp, mistral will tell you this themselves if you ask, it just sounds better. the stock silencer doesn’t have to do anything since the cat does 90% of the sound reduction, so they didn’t bother with any kind of accoustic tuning.

i would add removing the cat transforms the bike, if you want it to feel it breathes better it absolutely improves that. less engine braking as a result but so much more fun to ride.

Cat delete is definitely worth doing ( weight, heat, access to drain plugs etc). Silencer choice is up to you. After doing that I never felt the need for a booster plug - never felt it stumbling at lower rpm. It’s not an old thumper - you need 2500/3000 rpm to get it going.

Do it in stages and then you know what improvement each step makes. Easier on the wallet, too.

Hi, I’ve got a Mistral Carbon conical silencer that I no longer use. I got it in 2020 to fit my 2019 but it should be ok on later models. I had it on for a couple of years before removing it but it’s in superb condition and beautiful bit of kit.

It’s finished in genuine carbon fibre but I don’t think Mistral do it in that finish anymore. Look up their stainless conical silencer and it’s same as that but finished in black carbon fibre. I’ve some pics somewhere if interested but they’ll be back to when I first fitted it. I’m away from Wednesday (on the bike until mid June so can’t do anything after that. If interested I can post them and dig the unit out of the garage for some currents ones. You’ll need a graphite seal to ensure a close fit to the Catalyst. I paid a lot for this as it was a bit of a special by mistral. Ummm, £400 posted.
