V85TT centre stand

My new-to-me 2021 V85TT Travel was supplied new without a centre stand.
Can anyone advise the best source for a centre stand please? OE from a Guzzi dealer, or elsewhere? I note, for example, that M&P are advertising ‘genuine’ stands…

Thoughts and recommendations welcome please

I got mine from the dealer, it does take a while to get stuff from Piaggio or Moto Guzzi now. Unless they have it in stock it’s usually a few weeks waiting minimum.

I got an Abus paddock stand for my 1100 Sport that had no center stand.

Gutsibits have it for £175.73 inc VAT, they are also using the exact same photograph of it!

Well spotted, thanks.
I’d certainly prefer to give my money to them as an independent specialist :+1:

Gutsibits sold me a busted secondhand reg/rec for my Cali, and you can buy the brand new item and generator rings as well from a UK manufacturer who supplies gutsibits for a good bit cheaper than he sells for.

I ended up replacing both from the people who make them instead of the middle man and got brand new parts, with the correct wiring I needed, with a guarantee.

I will post the manufacturer tomorrow when I find it, they are excellent for any Italian bike not just Guzzi.

I got genuine MG heated grips from MandP direct. No problems, in original packaging. Work well and saved waiting months for TPS sensor which was unavailable in UK.

I had a centre stand from day one but various patches of rust appeared. The dealer was good and got me a new one but that was also painted and came complete with tiny scratch to the metal. I will fit the stand when it comes back from the powder coaters, at which time I will have a spare which will be available if you are interested. I don’t have a timescale at the moment though.

Hi Pete,

That would be ideal, thanks. I’d plan to have it powder coated anyway.
Will the stand be complete with bushes, springs etc. i.e. ready to fit, or will I need to source those parts separately?
Perhaps send me a PM when you’ve got an idea of timescale, cost, etc.

Alan

I’ve read they are a nightmare to fit, be interesting to see if that’s true or you manage fitting without any hassle

I bought mine from a German firm on the net, I think it was about £100 inc postage, They are a swine to fit, the springs are so strong, I bent a really long strong screwdriver trying to leaver the springs over the locating spur, got there in the end, Good luck!

Thanks for all the comments, suggestions and offers.
I have just bought a new OE centre stand from M&P, prompted by a very useful 20% discount.

I’ll be fitting it soon and my plan is to fit the springs first then, using a ratchet strap through the back wheel, draw the stand backwards to locate the bolts. Sounds simple, doesn’t it…?!:rofl:

There’s a really useful video on YouTube which helped me when I fitted my centre stand. Search V85TT centre stand or Cubbysue ( he posted the video)

Hi, sorry that I haven’t been back to you earlier. I tried fitting the new stand the other day and thought that I would slacken off the bolts before releasing the springs. I thought that Guzzi were metric? On the near side a 17mm spanner would not go on and an 18mm was very sloppy, so I measured the nut and it came up as 17.5mm a size that I simply don’t possess in any form except adjustable spanners, which I am not happy with so it can be replaced at the dealers when it goes in for service, especially since the new stand is a warranty replacement.

Sounds like 11/16 Imperial?

Nothing so daft. It turned out that the 17mm spanner was actually 16.something mm and a better quality spanner fitted.

Had me going too

Clearly I’m doing something wrong here… Trying to fit the OE stand to my E5 but getting the pivot bolts in appears impossible without removing the cat. They just about fit in without the main stand in place… When it is, well… Seems like the divots in the cat are out of position. Anyone else had this problem?

Edit… Clearly, I was doing something wrong! Wearing gloves… All sorted now. But I’ve got greasy fingers

+1 For the Cubbysue video, I am about to fit mine and will use a ratchet strap to fit the springs.
