V85TT MIA wanted

As it says - new V85TT owner and I’d quite like to try the MIA first, before going for something like a “Chigee” that I’ve seen a mate using for nav/music/etc. I like the idea of there being nothing else visible on the bike, even if it’s functionality is limited.

Thanks,

Scott.

Excuse my ignorance but what is MIA?

It’s a module that plugs in under the seat and gives the bike Bluetooth connectivity.

I’ve got it into my head and could be totally wrong but MIA is the M, the I and the A in Multimedia iro the Guzzi Multimedia Patform (confusingly called GMP) and supposedly gives, as stated bluetooth connectivity. You can download the Moto Guzzi nav app but you would need the MIA device to use it…costs around £160. Better systems are available…

you dont need the mia to use the navigation app, it works in my car not connected to anything. you only need the mia to connect the app to the bike or if you want to stream calls/music via the bike which allows answering calls / changing volume / changing tracks, or manually control helmet to helmet intercom etc using the handlebar controls. you can stream directly to your helmet without MIA and of course connect helmet intercoms directly (and the sound quality is better). the navigation app using phone screen only is a bit basic, extra info is shown on the bike dash if you have mia.

edit : it also does trip logging and data such as speed, mpg, gear etc is logged if you enable that, and a few other features, if you connect the app to the bike

Interesting. Forgive me if I have misunderstood …so the moto guzzi app on your phone works in the car for basic navigation functions and consequently will work on the bike in the same way. Am I correct in thinking that it connects via your phone by USB ? Cheers

Bluetooth - that’s why I want to try it, I can keep the phone tucked away in a pocket and get directions on the bike screen. I’m not really interested in music and comms connection at the moment, but it would be good to try it out with directions showing on screen. Would rather not have my phone or some other nav device mounted on the bars/dash if I can help it.

That’s an interesting point you make though - I’ve not tried connecting a phone using the USB next to the dash. I’m guessing that won’t suddenly connect and show directions on the bike screen?

Edit to add - just tried that, it’s a no

the usb sockets are power only. keeping phone in pocket is one of the key advantages, not just for avoiding theft but for heavy rain which we get a lot of here

I use a helmet and microphone headset which is blue tooth and hands free and is connected to my NaviFly 7.5 inch Sat Nav, Radio, Phone etc.

yes you can use the navigation app without mia, but it’s far better with mia as the bike dash shows things like time to destination, distance to end, distance to next turn, current road name etc. the phone screen navigation has a map obviously but below that just arrival time, distance, destination.

If you have the 2024MY (E5+) then the other thing the MIA unlocks is the heated seat (Guzzi option).

i ordered mine with MIA mainly for this function but although I was at first sceptical of the navigation function, it actually works well. It isn’t as good as a dedicated system like Garmin and it doesn’t show maps on the bike dash but for turn-by-turn navigation it’s fine. It also updates quickly when taking a wrong turn and displays the speed limit.

Personally, I don’t like a crowded dash with brackets and holders on the handlebars and of course the potential to have your tech’ stolen. In darkest winter, with sideways rain and bumpy roads etc. I certainly would not want my ‘phone in one of those holders!

It’s probably only worth it if you value the things I mentioned or you really value the data from your rides (I don’t). Many on this forum will have their preferences for alternative ‘phone based navigation systems so if you are into ‘on-bike route planning’ they may suit you better.

Just my tuppence!

Thanks for all the replies. I took the plunge and ordered a new MIA unit, it arrived today and works a treat. As Squarepants said, the plan was to get the on screen directions without having my phone or a nav unit visible and cluttering up the dash area. Just need to find the right pairing method to add my Sena headset to the Guzzi app now - tried and failed this afternoon, but after delving into the Sena manual it seems there are about 5 different ways to pair it with different bluetooth devices. So that’s a job for tomorrow morning

you need to pair it using the app on your phone with the bike switched on and the phone connected with both the phone icon and the data icon ahowing on the screen. then go to the menu in the app to add your headset. you can access the user manual via the app settings too

It was more a Sena issue than the Guzzi app, got there in the end. Using the 3rd of 5 pairing methods on the Sena, it worked.
