V85TT Servicing

Hi All, has anyone done their own service on the. New model V85TT I just wonder what tools people use to get TDC for the valve clearances? It’s due it’s second annual next year, and at £342 a time plus a 180 mile round trip I want to service it myself after this last dealer service, warranty expires and not sure I will take the extended warranty.

Any help ir advice greatly appreciated

I used a pencil.

Others prefer a tie wrap or a screwdriver.

There is a trade off between a very positive feeling of tdc and having something hard enough to damage the piston or fragile enough to break! but if you move it all slowly it is fine.

The job is much much easier with the bike on a lift but i just use a camping mat and lie on the floor!

I have a 5 “ piece of 4mm petrol pipe from an old strimmer , it’s hardened enough to sit in the plug hole and move with the piston but soft enough not to do damage

I take the rocker covers off and watch the valves move to estimate TDC

Best wishes Chris

Yes I watched this guy, actually spoke with him via email, he got rid of the Guzzi long ago, he did some very useful videos though :+1:

Do people generally use the back wheel to move to TDC ? And does anyone know if the procedure is different on the VVT engine ?

Happy New Year all :+1:

I’ve never used the back wheel to rotate the engine to TDC I always use the alternator centre allen bolt

Happy New Year

Chris

Is the alternator cover a dry cover on the v85tt?

Looking at the engine manual it looks like it is an oiltight cover over the camchain as well.

Sorry I was talking about my Tonti… I’ll get my coat!

I wish we could turn the crankshaft… always more controllable than using the wheel through the various transmission shock-absorbers
