V85TT TDC Tool

Hi All,
I have a 2021 V85TT, previously owned a 2008 V7, I carry out all of the mechanical servicing myself wherever possible, I did my valve clearances earlier in the year.
Being a bit of a perfectionist, I have always been used to Japanese bikes and Royal Enfields, whereby you can line up marks on the crank case for TDC.
Obviously with Guzzi, it’s a case of turning back wheel in gear, and seems a little inaccurate.
Has anybody used a TDC tool? Been looking at them recently and they seem a really good idea and a lot more accurate? Or are Guzzi spark plug holes the wrong angle in relation to the piston crown?
Hope this makes sense? :joy: I will attach a picture of the tool I am thinking of, thank you in advance.
Kindest Regards,
Bill Whittaker

The angle of dangle makes no practical difference (unless you approach 90, which is not the case). You are looking for maximum elevation, not any kind of measurement. But you can save £10 by using a plastic straw with a few Sharpie markings on it to do the same thing. Cheapie endoscopes which attach to your phone are another way. Many paths to enlightenment are possible.

I see your point the more inline with piston travel the tool is the less it risks score-ng the piston. Those tools do make it easier to find tdc quickly.
