v85tt = winter corrosion?

Hi i want to use my v85 through winter.
Does anyone else do this and which bits are most vulnerable to corrosion?

Jon

I dont know about which bits are likely to corrode, but I bought some expensive stuff that they use on helicopter blades to prevent corrosion, I sprayed it inside the casting covers on the wheels, all of the frame parts and any metal parts of my Breva, seems to have worked ok, their are companies that will come and winterize your motorcycle for you
I would look at coating any welded lug sections, inside metal tubing, up inside the yokes, under the tank, basically any bits that will get road salt on them, avoiding anywhere that will fling it onto the braking system though

valve covers, the frame the fog lights hang on by the edges of windscreen,the bevel box, exhaust mounting studs

the valve covers and bevel box dont corrode just the paint gets tatty and peels off, leaving oxidised bare alloy, but the frame around the headlight is steel and does rust, as do the exhaust studs, and the ‘stainless’ nuts on the side of the headstock

centre stand gets a pounding from salt too and gets rusty so might be best taking it off and ceracoating it

The quality of some of the fasteners isn’t wonderful. Both I and the previous owner have slowly been swapping over corroded fasteners for S/S as we found them. Worth also dealing with little bits of incipient corrosion as you come across them - axles, gear shift shaft, all respond to a bit of metal polish followed by an appropriate grease, sensibly applied. A Caponord mudguard at the front and a Pyramid hugger at the back will reduce the amount of cleaning you have to do. Your favourite cheap Chinese tat emporium will sell you a sock to go over the monoshock to keep the worst of the winter off. Amusingly they send you two for £10.
