Hi all,
I recently taken ownership of a 22 plate V85tt which has been left to rot somewhat, although is mechanically sound.
Main issue is corrosion of the Valve Cover and the final drive casing. As well as various bolts.
The bolts and the final drive I’ll get round to, but the Valve covers I’d like to refurb now.
I was wondering if anyone had had there’s refurbished either DIY or professionally. And if so how did it turn out?
The alternative is picking up some used ones which go for 50-100.
Cheers in advance
I would try paint stripper then production paper and then apply hammerite smoothrite or silk.

I’m going to use hammerite special metals primer then hammerite on mine although I’m considering getting them both ceracoated instead (and the centre stand too) as i think this will last longer

Have you any idea of the cost for ceracote?
I am struggling to even get an idea of what it would cost to have the stripped and powder coated.
not got a price yet, but I’m going to get a quote soon from a local place that has ceracoated some parts for a bike belonging to a club member. i cant remember what he paid but it was reasonable enough to make it an option for me.
the only hassle is my v85 is my only mode of transport most of the time so removing the valve covers for a couple of days will have to wait until I’m not going anywhere
It’d be great if you post the prices when you get them.
The bike being u/s was why I was looking at 2nd hand ones as a temp fix then sell them on again. Sledgehammer to crack a nut maybe

there were some for sale in the marketplace on the main website but the seller never posted his contact details so i wasn’t able to get them :-/
stein dinse has them new for about 130 euros but i don’t want to spent that much
Stein are now wanting 169 and don’t have both sides currently in stock.
I’m hope that a repair will be a lot less than 300 quid. But who know these days
Oh well fortune shines on me.
Picked up a Pair of near perfect valve covers for £50 on fleabay! Hope I can find a similar deal on a final drive😀

Hi, just get them powder coated, as they are aluminium they will coat very well.
I have had a couple of Suzuki wheels done for £60 each as well as a rack for £25, so a couple of covers would be cheaper and quicker than a clean up and spray can. We have a couple of powder coaters in Yeovil, both do an excellent job, I got them back the next day.
Regards Bob.
Thanks for that info
What I’ll do is have the old ones powder coated to have in reserve if I drop the bike:scream:
