As is wont to happen at this time of year I have started to think about my next project. I’ve been looking at importing an 850T from the US or Italy but the new customs regulation mean that it impossible for an individual to manage the customs declaration and thus adds quite a lot of cost to the whole process.
With this in mind I thought I’d see if anybody was think of selling a bike in the UK that would be suitable.
I’m really looking for an unrestored bike but will consider anything that has the correct tinware.
Cheers Everyone,
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
The cost for the company to submit the forms to HMRC on your behalf is minimal and very easy to do, I’ve just done it. Your greatest cost will be the VAT and import duty which will depend on the motorcycles value.
Thanks I’ve seen both of these. They have been available for a long time (perhaps a year) and haven’t sold, mainly because of the price. The one bike I missed last summer was a restored Italian import advertised at £5K which sold after quite a while so I suspect that it went for between £4.5K and £5K. Prices are depressed at the moment so I would think a more realistic price for the top C&C one should be £4K but only if it is the very late '75 engine with oil filter. I also suspect that most sellers would rather keep than sell at current market prices. (Not unreasonably)
Hello Simon,
I have a cheap T3 for sale, garden find, v scruffy but a good base for a restoration.
I may be able to find bits and pieces that are missing, from my years of guzzi ownership.
Regards,
David.
Oh ok, it’s on marketplace, £1,100,i have found some clocks and a headlight, which I am willing to include, I bought the bike as you see it.
Regards.
David.
I’m not sure if you are still looking, but I know of an 850T for sale
1976 (R plate) He thinks was made at the beginning of 1975 because it has the T3 sump and spin off filter which, according to Mick Walker, was only fitted to the last few produced.
They are 38mm Marzocchi forks bought new for the bike, after the above mentioned front end crash, here is another photo when I thought it would be a good idea to pretend it was a 750S, when it got painted red and the 950 engine I decided not to pretend any more.
The nicer parts on the 850T (and 750S) that were lost with the 850T3 (and 750S3) are the final drive casing with a sump that has finning on the bottom for cooling, the larger rocker covers (as on the earlier 750 Sport and other loops) the twin leader rear drum brake and the cast aluminium dash, all these parts are now hard to source. It also has the original switch gear but I have repurposed them as I no longer have indicators on the bike.
I’m in Essex if you would like a look, send me a PM with contact details.
With the financial problems in the mid 70’s it is not surprising that a 1974 model sat in the show room and was not first registered until 1976. Money was short and Italian bikes relatively expensive. I think I bought it in 1986, when I arrived the owner was polishing it in the road, it looked great. It came with a big barn door touring fairing, top box and panniers that my friend took home from London in his car.
I rode the bike home and didn’t like it, the torque reaction was odd. In fact for the first 6 weeks of ownership I didn’t like the handling at all, until I realised that you need to accelerate into right handers and throttle back into left handers, revelation!
I have loved the handling ever since.
When the bike broke down (sheared crank, don’t ask!) I bought a six year old carb 1100 Sport, fantastic! We found it difficult to tour two up so I swapped it for a Spada III, the engine including the carbs were the same as the 950S (my thinking being interchangeability) but the seat was too short for us so it had to go and has been replaced with a new 2011 Stelvio, great bike for distance, well loaded up and a magic carpet two up!
Sorry I am now well off topic so I should moderate myself!
