WANTED Dellorto 40s

Dear All,
Anyone have pair of Dellorto 40s for my LeMans project?

They’re getting hard to find in good condition.
The last pair that I had held on to for a project sold for a princely sim and went to New Zealand.
There must be sets gathering dust.
Good luck with the search.

You’re not kidding…
When I saw the price new, I cried!

Le Mans 1000?
Le Mans 1,2,3 use 36 mm carbs.
I have a pair of 36 but I also have a Le Mans 2 engine which they go with.
I might split them but I need to think hard about it.

Think it’s a special rather than a stock. Unless it’s a LMV

Thanks for taking an interest.

My project is based on a LeMans IV - 16" front wheel.
It has a freshly built 948cc (1000) engine and requires 40mm Dellortos.

So far they seem to be as rare as hens teeth…

£270 + vat each from eurocarb in Reading.
probably a better deal than a crusty s/h pair that you will have to rebuild anyway.

Hi Nik,
You’re probably right but it was worth asking…

Just a thought. As it’s a special does it have to have Dellortos?
There was a trend for fitting Amals to LeMans I & IIs in the early 80s. There are some good quality Mikuni replicas around now.

I might look into that but I’m not sure I’ve got a big enough brain to work out what I would need in a different design of carb. Having said that I did run my 1100 Sport with flat slide Keihins from Raceco for a while - the bike flew, but with no cold start circuit, it wasn’t popular with my neighbours!

Amals?? Why? They are all rubbish compared with Mikunis and Dellortos, apart from the Concentric Mk2, which is a copy of a Mikuni anyway.

The Mk1 is one of the worst carbs ever made for motorcycles. The only thing it is good for is wide-open throttle (WOT) use, which isn’t very useful on today’s roads.
