Good grief !
I have a March 2025 300 miles V7 Stone and whilst loving it am now thinking that if I’d joined this forum and read this thread before I bought it then I wouldn’t have bought it… But I wouldn’t have joined this forum if I hadn’t have bought the bike - chicken and egg ! Already needed a new lambda sensor at 39 miles…
Hope you guys get your issues sorted, not that the peeling paint is gonna that easy to sort out… My bike will NEVER see rain or winter so hopefully the engine and exhaust paint will survive. When I went to the dealer to see a new V7 Stone they had a secondhand one - 22 plate with 20K miles - in stock and to be fair all the engine and exhaust paint looked pretty decent which kind of encouraged me at the time.
I’ve liberally sprayed ACF50 in all the switchgear in advance of any issues (fingers crossed). I also got the dealer to mist the whole bike with ACF50 before it was delivered. I’m planning on replacing the upper bolt on the gear linkage as I’ve heard that those snap off sometimes (Bingley Wheeler on YT for example). I guess it’s a case of trying to assess what the probs are going to be and then try to address them in advance where possible.
My clutch had a good 10mm gap/play at the lever when deliver (13/03) so I adjusted this down on top of the engine so as to get 2mm or so play at the lever as per the manual. The gearbox is a bit of a shocker after Jap in line 4s !! Definitely an acquired taste and I hope it improves after a couple of thousand miles. Changing down from 3rd to second is the worst change - blipping the throttle doesn’t seem to help much… easier top just coast down to very low revs (just before engine starts objecting) before making the change.
One little moan is that I wish the indicator switch could be nudged half way to get the indicators to give 3 or 4 blinks rather than having to be nudged all the way and then turned off by pushing in.
Cheers,
Mike
Hi Mike and welcome. I bought mine (V7 850) last year with a few thousand on the clock. I love the comfort looks and exclusivity of it. My first Guzzi. I’ve sprayed my switchgear and never use it to turn the bike off like is recommended by others on here. I’ve put new levers on which have improved comfort for me. Can you post when you change the gear linkage bolt and what it was please as I want to do the same for mine? I’d recommend grip puppies unless you like the skinny grips. Welcome and enjoy mate
I rode mine through this winter-and it seems someone on the local council had shares in salt/grit production as our roads are ankle deep in the stuff. On a dry day there were literally clouds of salt kicked up on the main road!
I used MucOff motorcycle protector which I later saw in a Bennett’s video isn’t great apparently. And a few time I didn’t wash the bike for a few days (the last bike I had, a Honda, coped with this sort of abuse.
Have to say I’m fairly happy with the MotoGuzzi considering. There are a couple of oxidised fittings and the bolt holes for the rear footrest supports, when viewed from under the rear mudguard, do have surface corrosion in the threaded area - so pack yours with grease while its new. I will be washing more often next winter and using a better protector - maybe XCP dry film (clear film?) as that scored well but isn’t too sticky/messy.
The gear change at cold is still very stiff from 1 to 2 and back. No problem with other gears for me. Although finding neutral is still hit and miss. These very minor niggles haven’t relaxed even after reaching 1300 miles. Maybe they need more bedding in.
No machine is ever perfect. You’ve paid your money for a reason… to enjoy the bike, and I’m sure you will.
I’d also be interested in the gear linkage bolt - might get one to carry as a spare, just in case.
So,
I managed to get great service from Jim Allan’s in Falkirk (Scotland) who have raised the issues on my behalf. So far MG/Piaggio want nothing to do with the finishing issues so rattle-can it is and hipster pipe tape if the down pipes become offensive.
Waiting on judgement re the electronic issues coming back. Surely they can’t claim it’s nothing to do with them on the potentially life threatening stuff??! We shall see.
