what are these for?

Hello, These are from the top of the forks on my LM1. I am restoring and rebuilding it with a lot of help. Can you help me out as it’s a long time since I disassembled it. Thanks all.

Those look like earthing tags, used on leccy connections in industry in my experience, I can’t imagine what they’d be doing on your forks

They are for mounting your Instrument Housing

Nik has it, they fit around the fork stanchion with a rubber below and above (I have bought O rings to support mine as I could not source the original rubbers and my forks are not standard) which are held between the headlamp brackets pushed up under the top yoke. The bend is to the top and the small holes bolt to the clock surround, again with rubbers in the clock supports. The brackets you have are not shown in the parts book for some reason.

On my bike I wanted the clocks lower so I have stainless steel spacers and turned the brackets upside down see photo below. Mine are supported by the Tomaselli clip-ons, but you get the idea! So from the top down

Top yoke
O ring
Spacer
O ring
Bracket
O ring

(Edited to match the photo!)

Clip-ons
but this arrangement is not standard. Also my brackets have been altered for 38mm diameter Marzocchi forks. Well it is mostly non-standard!

Thank you. This is helpful

They are shown on the LM1 parts book as being the other way up to my set up

Parts numbered 4, They are not shown in the 850T parts book that my Tonti started life as, even though they came with the bike. I hope this helps.

Best wishes Chris

What a simple but effective way to mount the clocks, I’m curious..
Is it simply the rubber O rings that hold them at a certain height.? Or are they butting up to other clamps/bars etc..

The original set up has tapered rubbers top and bottom of the headlamp bracket tubes that fit around the fork stanchions, the clock brackets sit above these with a washer above. All of these parts are clamped between the top and bottom yokes.

I have sexy cast aluminium headlamp brackets that are shorter than the standard ones, also my clip-ons are below the top yoke and both of these items have clamps of their own. My clock brackets are trapped between the clip-ons and the top yoke and squeezed up by the clip-ons, the O rings and spacers are my own answer to making the clocks relatively free from vibration and setting them at my desired height.
