I put my 850T on a dyno to check the fuelling. It was running 142 main jets. These are the original jets as confirmed by the workshop manual. However, the dyno said these were far too big. We swapped them for 130’s but still too rich. We then tried 125’s and the dyno was happy.
When we started, I only had 38bhp ( at the rear wheel obvs ) but after changing the main jets we had 43bhp.
The book says this engine should give 68bhp, but the dyno man smiled and said this would have been Guzzi’s claim for power at the crank.
We then replaced the spark plugs using “Pulse Jet” inserts.
After a little tweaking of the ignition timing, we ended up with 48bhp!
So, more power and it should be more economical too. Marvellous.
Chilly catch up with fellow Staffies at Chequered Flag Cafe on the Darley Moor race circuit near Ashbourne. Great to see a good number of Guzzis parked amongst racing machines in pre season prep.
Nice day, I got to grips with installing a low fuel warning light on my V11. Having installed a digit dash 8 years ago that did not have the feature, I have now decided 18,000 mile later that I don’t really want to be with out one. Managed to pick up the OEM switched live for the circuit and the return to the in-tank sensor. Just need to re-install the tank now and fill it for the final test. Then I can install the lamp in the dash mount. Still keep on thinking about passing on the stewardship of it. It has been with me 20 years now and approaching my 7th decade, it is getting hefty to get in and out the garage.
After popping to “squires” for a cuppa, i though hmmm lets have a ride to the new Guzzi dealers in Leeds. Postcode into sat-nav and off i trundled. Well the slight drizzle turned into hissing it down in Leeds city centre, the roads were bloody dangerous (pot holes everywhere) and no one looked before pulling out, it was terrifying. Sat nav said you were at your destination and stop grumbling that your soaked, but could i find it, could i hell. So gave up and rode home to find Pontefract bone dry arghhh. So filthy bike me wet thru and no visit. Ohh well at least i was out on my Guzzi
On hols in Tenerife spotted this cared for Griso. Nearly 20 years old and over 100k kilometers on clock. Owned by a local, had a chat but I have no Spanish and he had very little English but we got by, (I was on a hired 300cc scooter doing a lap of the Island, which was great)
Staffies second club night of the month. Good turnout with the amount of standing water that there is around.
Looking forward to Friday and Sunday lunch meetings later in the eeek.
A dozen or more Guzzisti arrived from Peterborough, Manchester, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire and across Staffordshire for todays lunch date with the Staffies. Relaxed conversation, good food and warm sunny weather made fir a great time.
