I’ve been looking around for a 125cc moto guzzi for a while, and one particular bike has caught my attention. The Moto Guzzi 125 2c 4t. I know it’s a badge engineered Benelli, and that it’s quite rare. Other than that I can’t find much information.
What is it like to ride? What is it like to work on? What’s the parts availability like? Are the electronics unreliable?
If anyone has any information please tell me. It is such a mystery machine.
Thank you!
The Benelli/Guzzis are fairly specialist territory, and have their own followings, e.g. https://www.benelliforum.com/
There are some owners in the MGCGB, but even within their ranks, the 125 is a scarce beast. Generally, as you’ve pointed out, the reaction can be “not actually a Guzzi”, which (in practical terms) means first-hand knowledge is thin on the ground in this membership. Parts availability even more so: the “go to” suppliers that most Guzzi owners use carry little or nothing for these bikes. If memory serves, quite a bit of it is common to other machines - but that’s where the specialist enthusiasts will be able to help you. I vaguely remember an article about them in Gambalunga a long time back - possibly some reports of rebuilds/restorations. Presumably there’s a back issue “index” somewhere, @rogershuff ?
If it’s a Guzzi 125 you’re interested in, then the Stornello might be something to look at. Scarce, but not as scarce as that Benelli. And for the Stornello’s yup will find knowledge, assistance and (arguably better) parts availability. Hope this helps.
Good luck!
Thanks for the reply Barry!
Yeah, thought as much. Not really a good choice for a daily rider I guess. Well I do like the Stornello anyway, so I’ll have a look about for one.
Just one more question though. What’s the Benelli version of it called?
Benelli version? Substitute “Moto Guzzi” for “Benelli” otherwise as is.
Oh right. I thought the names might be a little different. Thanks!
You may be right. There were a few badge engineered Italian bikes that changed both manufacturer and model name.
Yup, I checked and the Benelli model has a different name. It was called the Benelli 124.
Here’s an Italian wiki article about it and the Guzzi version.
I assume you are referring to one of these in this link, they are very rare in this country.
There are a few Meriden Co-Uno bikes in this country, built by the Meriden Co-op during the late 70’s. Guzzi supplied them in kit form to be assembled at Meriden. I’ve never owned one, but have heard they have a very poor reputation.

I see. Thanks for the extra info. From what I’ve heard it’s not something you’d want to ride I guess. More of a museum peice.
I believe the Moto Guzzi built bikes are okay, it’s just the Meriden ones that are poor quality.
As for your original post, I have never seen a 125cc 4 stroke twin in this country, I doubt if thet were ever officially imported here.
They did make a 125 Custom in the 80’s. It looks like a liquid cooled 2 stroke?

There are a few Stornellos about in the UK and they are quite useable little bikes. They aren’t very quick, about 55mph max, but good fun. I have 3 of them!
