Hi just wondering where you guys would buy things like service kits , parts etc thanks
What bike are you looking for parts for?
He’s just got an older Griso I believe.
Easy to find things at GutsiBits Gutsibits Fowlers Fowlers GRiSO parts book have the online parts book use the Aprilia parts numbers to search ebay and elsewhere for find bits also used on other models. Lots of other links here Guzzi fan link page.
You probably already use GRiSO Ghetto? All the best info to keep your GRiSO running
Thanks, ive been on guzzibits, are there service kits usually the recommend parts, eg I see lot’s of mentions around the correct air filter etc, this is my first Guzzi and I usually like to do the work myself so I’m going to do a full service then work up to flashing the beetle map. I’m trying to gather as much information as possible eg docs, videos etc which seems a little harder to find than previous jap bikes. I’ve also got to look at the startus interruptus fix as I’ve already experienced the click which caught me out when filling up . Luckily it fine on the second attempt.
No service kits i have ever seen, but it is not hard or expensive to assemble the bits - have you got the owners and workshop manuals? The are on Gregory Bender’s site This old tractor
as well as GRiSO Ghetto.
Also the horrid question… has it been ‘rollerised’?
Hi thanks for the heads up, the previous owner assured me it had been done and I have a receipt for a top end rebuild for over a grand at wheels motorcycles Peterborough, I will only know for sure when I do the valves and check I suppose, im assuming though that surely they wouldn’t have repaired with flat tappets? My luck though
. I noticed from the history it’s been inea few times for rough running low end and it’s had a new throttle cable, valve adjustment etc but for my liking it’s still difficult at low speeds so I intend to do the full service and get guzzidiag and try the beetle map and hope that helps, I’m hoping it’s something I can sort out and that I haven’t bought a lemon. It’s hard to pick these things up on the first ride when you’re new to Guzzis
when i had my GRiSO the greatest bottom end improvement came when i cleaned the airways in the throttle bodies. If anyone fills the engine over halfway with oil it will belch it into the airbox from where it dribbles through the throttle bodies and settles as gum in the air bypass airway. This is the one you use to set a smooth tickover which then makes tuning the first 1/8 of throttle opening easy. If the airways are bunged up then tickover is rough and all over and then hesitation on throttle opening.
But getting the throttle bodies out to clean them is a b’stard. Remove all of the vicious bloody minded trunking and hoses then the throttle bodies can be tipped forwards 90 degrees and then work out to one side. Don’t drink before attempting this but you will need one after.
Thanks for the info I’ll add that to the list, is there any diagram or video you followed or did you just work through it?
Well i had the workshop manual and followed a post on GRiSO Ghetto
And was mindful of Pete’s warnings that new throttle bodies are almost non existent and…
The throttles were designed with a cable pull to the left choke and the TPS on the right choke. The linkage was then set in the factory on a flow-bench so that both throttles flow the same gas volume at any one TPS reading. This means that adjusting the wrong part of the linkage, wear on the ball joints on the linkage and accidentally bending the linkage result in different airflow in both chokes at anyone TPS setting. BE VERY CAREFUL when handling the linkage and the ball joints.
I have not heard of anyone able to repair a set of throttles where the linkage has been ‘disturbed’
SO with a balance of care, frustration, irritation and force
Looks like ive got a serious learning curve coming up,![]()
