Wires to cast?

I was out with my dogs this morning and met a man sitting on a bench with a nice classic 500 Enfield next to him. We got talking and I said I had Guzzis. He said he had one too. Anyway it turns out that it was a 2021 V850 wire wheel model - the posh one. He had a scary moment with one of his tubed bikes when it suffered an instant deflation and wants to swap his Guzzi wires for the cast ones of the Stone, but he says everyone he asks doesn’t know if they are a straight swap or not. (dealers, Gutsibits etc)

Does anyone know if they are a straight swap?

He is either going to buy new (if they fit) or might swap with someone who wants spokes.

Can anyone help.

He has no computer or knowledge of them.

I don’t see why not. The rest of the bike is the same. It might be worth checking the length of spacers and axle diameter. I look at the parts lists for the two bikes would give a clue.

Could be a money pit! M/C wheels seem incredibly expensive these days.

For a while I had an ex-police R80 RT, for which for some reason the police insisted on them having spoked wheels, despite BMW having ‘moved on’ to cast wheels by the time it was made, 1983. I remember considering changing them to cast, and I actually went so far as to get hold of the correct ‘snowflake’ wheels second hand. Unfortunately it was so complicated, needing lots of other bits (and quite a bit of added expense, because it’s a BMW). I gave up in the end and the wheels went with it when I sold it. That would be 2015.

I swapped my wheels on my Stelvio from wire to cast ten years ago, cast ones bought for £400.00 complete with bearings from now closed dealer in South London, spoked wheels sold on eBay for £250.00. I was worried as a spoke seal started to leak and was replaced under warranty, and as I considered the bike as a keeper I didn’t want to have the same problem in the years ahead.

They are easier to clean as well :+1:
