Year 2008 V7 Clutch burning smell.

V7 Classic Year 2008 Strong smell of Burning Clutch on a machine that has done 30,000 miles with probably the original Clutch.

After the Winter lay-up and I am getting a strong smell of ‘Clutch’ after starting the engine and having ridden a short distance of, say, ½ mile.

Clutch ‘bite point’ of lever is correctly adjusted and there is no apparent Clutch slippage despite having applied full throttle in Gear 3, Gear 4 and Gear 5 at 60 to 70mph.

(Bike has a 5 Speed Box.)

Have spoken to 2 ‘Gurus’ and I understand that it may be that there is an excess of Clutch dust in the housing which I understand could be ‘blown-out’ after an amount of disassembly.

Do I get the Clutch changed?

Should I run the bike on until the Clutch starts slipping?

If it’s not broken don’t fix it!

Never done it myself , but have been told of the clutch bath method of blocking the drain hole at the bottom with blue tack or duct tape (or both ) pouring white spirit in through the flywheel inspection hole and running the bike for a short while and operating the clutch a few times . As l say, never had to do it , perhaps someone will either yay or nay wether it would be the solution. Cheers.
