Just wanted to share my experience with the above light which came on yesterday. I took the bike in to a local shop to run a quick diagnostic. Came up with ‘Transmission error CAN’. We cleared the fault code and restarted the bike in order to see if the code had cleared. It had, but the light remained on despite running several on/off/ start cycles. I check oil/fluid levels regularly and as long as the oil level (warm) is between the lines I am happy. I noticed that the level was slightly lower than the halfway point in the sight window, so took the chance to top her up. On starting her up again the Mi light went off immediately. Obviously my Goose is a bit sensitive about her oil level.
Are you sure “transmission” refers to the gearbox or to the CAN network which transmits messages between components on the electronic system?
I didn’t know it monitored oil level as well.
The message read;
Transmission error CAN
So I presume it’s the transmission of information rather than anything to do with the gearbox which sounds/feels perfect. It went out as soon as I topped off the oil which was just below halfway in the sight glass.
I didn’t either, no mention it online, if fact a couple of sources suggest it doesn’t, either way, everything is back to normal.
Thanks for posting this: it has certainly helped me! I have just had a very similar experience - oil level was definitely within limits, but had distinctly dropped. Topped it up and light went off…
I had also changed the air filter, but that didn’t seem to make a difference (although I don’t know how long the system takes to decide if it is happy again, especially if it was something more complex like restricted air flow rather than simply oil level)
