Absolutely fantastic day at the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Airbase at Nostell Priory.
Five of us met at Greggs, a couple of us wearing silly sox in memory of Gios Birthday. Just as we were just getting ready to leave, two units from the West Yorkshire Fire Service pulled in..
.. Spooky. They remembered Gio fondly.
Ten Pennine Guzzisti in total made the trip down to Wakefield to have a tour of the airbase and present a cheque for the money raised for Pete Mayohs Memorial fund and one from us from last years Pennine Rally.
Gill and Karen went in the minibus with the rest of us on two wheels.
We met up at The Rhubarb Triangle pub for lunch, then made the short trip down to the base.
Unfortunately enroute, Lil Geoff had a gentle “off” exiting a roundabout when his front wheel hit ..of all things.. a sidestand puck! Oh the irony. (Not one of ours by the way). Bike and Geoff were fine. Jokes about calling out the Air Ambulance were aplenty🤣
When we arrived we were ushered straight through onto the apron for photos with the helicopter, and it was suggested we could bring a few bikes through to get some good photos.
(on the understanding that we would be prepared to leg it ASAP if they got a call out)
We got them lined up.. just as the callout alarm sounded …sods law.
As requested we vacated immediately.
They took off, and Karen was watching on her Flight tracker…“their coming back” . Sure enough they had been stood down , so we got the photos after all😊
This was followed by an in depth tour of the helicopter and the operations centre, followed by tea and biccies.
All in all a really interesting day.
Many thanks to all MGCGB members for your generous donations to Peters fund and Pennine Rally raffles:+1:
Roll call:-
Ray Hewitt, Geoff Pinkett, James Cooper Ian James, Peter McDonald, Cliff Chisnall, Jim Rogers, Karen Hayes, Gill and myself.
The trip back home was absolute rubbish, catching all the rush hour traffic.
(After I split off from the others heading for home I was given a free flying lesson by a nice man who rear ended me at a roundabout. No damage to myself , but screen gone, bent mudguard and scraped crashbar and pannier.
All repairable )
