2024 V85TT refusing to find neutral

Hi All,
My new style 85TT over the past 3-4 weeks has begun to refuse to find neutral, it was never like this at all from purchase to now, started with a bit of difficulty but now won’t go in at all, until I kill the engine then it goes in first time, it’s also stiffer to find first from second at a standstill and is now impossible to find neutral from 1st. Any suggestions?

Have you checked the gear lever linkage, it may need greasing, also try adjusting it so there are no shallow angles in the linkage.

Best of luck!

Hi, I recently put new levers on my V7 and promptly lost neutral :grimacing:. A little adjustment of them and it came back again. I have never had a bike with such a sensitive gear selection but it’s worth it. Not sure if your levers are adjustable or if the cable is just a tad loose or tight. Easy check to do.

Forgive my ignorance but can you explain where I measure the free play on the lever, I have read 2mm of free play when cold, but measured where ?? End of the lever or near the adjuster?

2mm cable slack at clutch lever. Strip gear lever and it does Not pivot on the bolt. The lever pivots on a top hat bush which is fixed by the bolt. Push out bush clean and grease. Dont loose the o rings. Hope this makes sense. Often first symptom is a reluctance to change down.

gear linkage dries out, especially if you jetwash it. disassemble and regrease and it works again

or the quick fix of squirting wd40 in there if its an emergency.

there is a guide in the forum with photos, showing the disassembly etc

There is one thread click here with a similar issue, is that the one you remembered Sid?

Hi Chris, that was my discovery it dries out  but soneone later also had the same issue and then fixed it themselves and posted photos of how they did it.

The issue I see is that the factory appear to be afraid of applying grease, the conditions in Italy are nothing like they are here!

Have a great weekend and a half!

I would definitely look at maximising clutch lift by lubricating the lever and pivot and adjusting the free cable play down to 2-3mm.

Then use the brake lever linkage adjusters to ensure that they are at 90 degrees in centre position and the brake pedal sits under your foot but a bit high

I guess you mean the gear lever?

Well spotted

Took it back to the dealer, they sorted it but now the bite point is very different, like learning a new bike again
