As per Guzziology I fitted an ‘O’ ring pack instead of the standard Guzzi seals during the rebuild. They have lasted exactly 1 year and they are now leaking. Is there a quick or simple way of replacing the seals or does the swinging arm have to come out? Do I need to remove the ‘O’ rings or can I just fit the new seals as well? Any advice appreciated.

I would reckon there is just enough room to get the clutch arm out with the swing arm in place but it would be a very fiddly job. You would have to go at it from under the bike, laying on yer back with all the crud falling into your eyes!! Far easier with the swing arm out of the way. There is an O-ring on the thrust bearing, could it be that which has failed? I replaced the little tapered ones on my Spada when I rebuilt the box on the assumption that the old ones had done many years
It could be the big ‘O’ ring but that was replaced during the rebuild too so it’s only 6000 miles old.
I’ve just replaced weeping clutch rod seal on my freshly rebuild spada engine(grrrrr), was a straightforward job, no need to take swingarm out, just remove the clutch arm then the offending articke can come out with a wiggle. The seal on mine had a bit of damage on it, new one in, no leaks, spare in shed just in case. got to sort out the bevel box leak now!
Are you talking about the large ‘O’ ring on the thrust block or the two small oil seals around the pushrod itself?
I presume this the correct arrangement?
Where is the oil coming from?
That is how mine came apart so assume it to be the correct arrangement. It went back the same way just with new seals.
It’s leaking from behind the clutch release arm.
I think the problem must be the big o ring then -the others being, I believe, to stop oil from getting through to the clutch plates. I replaced ONE of the cone seals with a few viton o rings (both cones still looked good to me, but thought the Guzziology advice may be sound).
Right. I’ve got both on order from Guzzibits.
Fairy nuff.
I concur.
Interesting though, never seen or heard of a leak here, but I guess if grit gets in can damage the O-ring.
Maybe that’s why Haynes sez grease up the gubbins when installing.

sorry about the delay in replying, been working away with linited internet access - yup the seal I replaced (and it stopped the leak) was the big O ring on the thrust block.
The thing about grease, as I am reminded of a recommendation for early boxer inboard rear wheel bearings (yes I’ve mentioned it before) a layer of grease on the outside precludes dirt getting in past the bearing’s seal (as that’s all there is!). So maybe same could apply here.
Well done to everyone who said it was the thrust block O ring. I replaced it with a Viton version and the leak is no more. Actually it’s not a suitable use of an O ring. They’re not supposed to form a sliding seal. There was a significant flat worn on the outer surface of the old one after only 5000 miles. I would guess it’s going to be a fairly regular service item.
I tend to agree. Congrats anyway

Well I have replaced mine 3-4 times in 20 yrs and lots of miles, Damned unreliable these here Guzzis what with THAT AND a rear disc bearing carrier falling aprt after ONLY 37 years it is a DIGRACE
