Florida 650 ignition

I’m sure I have the switch, it’s a Magura item, integral switch/master cylinder and twist grip. Give me till Thursday, work intrudes atm.

PS: How much are you paying me?

But you have to be able to afford a Fluke first. My £7.99 one doesn’t.[/QUOTE]
True. Costa lot even 2nd hand. But you couuld Google ‘capacitance meter’, Maplin do a DMM with the facility for about £35 http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/precision-gold-digital-multimeter-gw20w Looks quite decent actually, auto-ranging and can measure frequency as well.

Ok was down at my mechanic yes the master cylinder n switch is all one he stripped the switch gear wires back the white one from the kill switch is totally melted think the capacitor which is connected to both amplifiers but not earthed caused a power surge n melted the switch wire now we did that test on the capacitor resistance waswas 1190 going to nothing so it appears ok only numbers on the capacitor 083 the writing is rubbed off law rise definitely need that switch gear as mine totally burnt out lmbo22014-01-21 20:24:41

YES YOUR RIGHT SORRY CONNECTED TO BOTH AMPSNO EARTH HAS FRYED THE KILL SWITCH TOTALLY MELTED HENCE EARTH NOT CONNECTED POWER SPIKE HAS MADE THE SWITCH TOAST

'Course it may not be a capacitor at all but some other gizmo entirely or if it is a cap is simply kaput, whichever has created a short-circuit that has done for the switch.

A high resistance (as in dirty) contact produces heat, and this heat will fry the switch. The normal power for the ignition passes through the switch, probably about 4 Amps, which is more than enough to produce heat when there is a poor contact. It can happen in any situation, I doubt it has anything to do with any power surge (if there ever was one) or capacitor.

Very possible but what I was getting at is that this thing that looks like a capacitor (but is it really in actual fact) is (in actual fact) making a short circuit enough to create said heat and melt the switch. Replacing the switch without finding out why it melted may likely mean a repeat performance if there is another problem. Just sayin’

Aye your probably right I had a wee 250 z quackery points system no spark turned out both coils shot replaced them n points and away she went had not run in 7 years nice wee bike for running up the town in all electrics work fine it’s 1982 she is on the button will tell my mechanic to check all wiring n earth’s when I get the sswitch from lawries

Electrics fixed she lives slight back fire on rt exhaust carbs need balanced but on running a while settled down but rt exhaust a bit light on hand test at baffle thanks lawries for the part petrol cap broke at spring hinge so nee one of them r lawries does me a good deal on his

Think this bike turning out to be a demon bike now one amplifier not working on left side no spark again swapped left lead over to rt amplifier n it sparks why is there a spark on both when ignition is switched from on to off strange r what we had her running then no spark May have to go with the ingiteck amplifier

The amps generate a spark when the ignition is turned off. This is a test to check that they are working. If you get a spark on both plugs when you turn the ignition off, then both amps are working.

oh dear just ordered motoplat amps 256 pounds ,we did test on the amplifiers n swaped conection over she was only sparking both plugs on rt side connection left side dead on left connector but after spark on both on switching off so the after spark is normal ,could not get in touch with ignitech no response from them if this does not sort the electrics will break her shame really frame n engine n shinny bits all good nick named the bike old nicky for demon electrics

If it is not to late to cancel your Motplat order how about trying one of these setshttp://www.cajinnovations.com/MyECU/MyIgn.htmlA mate has them on his girlfriends V50, made his own pick ups, but you may be able to use the standard set up.

had a look at them cost from australia is $190 no guarantee they work r get refund brians comment worries me most well ordered now probaly coils fail next already in to 350 spend patience running out its a pity shes a nice looking bike

Shame you didn’t go here, could have saved yourself £190
And I have just discovered a direct replacement for motoplat ignition amplifiers is available here;
http://www.ignitech.cz/en/

PS: The Sparker TCI amplifier units from Ignitech operate both coils and are about €70 which is less than a single Motoplat unit.

If you get a spark from both amps when you turn off the ignition, both amps should be working, unless there is a problem with the pickup coils or just possibly the input circuit on the amp is faulty.
Did you swap the inputs to the amps too?Brian UK2014-02-16 11:11:43

£256 for an ign amp??! I’m in the wrong business…

Yes we did the swap left amp totally dead I know the mot a plats are ridiculous in price but could not access ignitech.cz for some reason also have to wait 4 to 5 weeks for them also moving house bloody nightmare

To be fair probably the most expensive part is getting the box made for it.

aluminium must be gold in Spain hope all this bother sorts her out goodweather must come soon had the wee z out the other day n battery ran flat soshes not charging reg/rectifier must be shot more money am I just moaning guy at work seen the florida on Facebook ballymena buy n sell cars wants to buy her think if I get her sorted will keep her what to do what to do lol any quick tips on carb balancing
