Givi monolock topbox recommendation please

Hi all, a I pictured yesterday, I managed to fit a monolock plate to my v7. I’m used to having a 47 litre givi topbox but not sure if this would look too big. I know they do a 37 litre one but not sure if too small? (It’s like Goldilocks I know😀). Any pics or thoughts appreciated. I’ve looked at previous threads but these were about fitment not size. Thanks in advance.

In my experience it is good to have it big enough to fit a helmet inside.

Thanks Chris. I agree, just not sure if the 47 l will look too big. I might settle on the 37

I like a box with enough room for a helmet, Gloves - not inside the helmet. A disc lock and puncture repair kit. Also waterproof trousers and spare gloves in case of rain.

And lunch.

And a (puncture repair kit and) compressor.

:blush::blush:always lunch.

I guess it all depends on what you need…
I have some mahoosive 56l Givi panniers and matching top box on my VStrom which I’ve used for longer euro trips with the missus, and also some small 22l panniers which are great if we’re heading off for a short trip or I’m by myself (especially as they’re no wider than my bars so don’t restrict filtering).
Day to day on my V7 I only have a rack and an assortment of bungees, though I do have an old Rickman top box, (one of those little square ish ones, so maybe 30l max) I can bolt on if needed.
What you hoping to carry.?

Cheers for replying King. It’s like anything. The more space I have the more rubbish I carry. I just didn’t want the V7 to look odd with a too big box. (Not that it might , hence the question). I think the 37 will meet my needs of bits and bobs and then squishing my jacket in if needed when at the bike racing but still keep the bike looking great

Am with you there, while I enjoy the practicalities, I think my V7 Classic looks too pretty to bung a top box ‘carbuncle’ on :sunglasses:
I’ll likely get some soft panniers instead, not secure like a box, but useful.
Sadly I don’t think Givi do Monokey pannier rails for my 2010 bike… (unless someone out there knows better.??).

I have a 34 litre Givi which is quite good and doesn’t look big. However if you need 47 litres, then you need 47 litres. Have one of those too.

Incidentally…
In the past I’ve used a suitable chain/cable passed through the sleeves / legs of my Aerostich kit to lock the jacket / trousers to my bike (all wrapped up in a suitable plastic bag).
Worked well for me :+1:

Cheers all. It’s a fine line between practicality and ruining the look of the bike. Some great advice thank you. I use an Oxford helmet bag and revolver chain lock to fix my helmet to my bike. If it’s raining I wear the jacket anyhow. (Try to avoid the rain but love MotoGP so occasionally get wet) What better way to spend a wet Saturday night than with a beer and looking at bike bits online :motorcycle::motorcycle: cheers.

I have a California Classic, I usually ride with a Shad top box for helmet, shopping etc but it looks ugly and seems much to heavy, my bike came fitted with Hepko and Becker fat cases which also don’t look good, I wanted slimmer cases for daily use and bought 2H H & B slim cases, similar to Krausers on Ebay. Unfortunately I then found the cases did not fit as the chrome fames are about one mm too fat.
I would like a much lighter top box and old style panniers but seem to be stuck with what I have. At least I can take loads of stuff when I go on holiday!!!

I have a givi 47 litre on my other bike (honda ). Not sure I would want to put a top box on the moto guzzi; it’s too pretty a bike…what about a couple of soft panniers and carry your helmet

Cheers Jonti. It a thought and yes, too pretty but when I go away I need a little bit of security so will probably opt for the smaller 37 litre box. :grinning:

Hi all. My box arrived and I’m glad I went for the 37 litre. Big enough for the junk I want to put in it but not too big for the V7. Thanks for all the advice. The pic from the rear makes the box look too big but it’s an optical illusion. :grinning:

Looks useable without being offensive :+1:
I’ve been looking for Monokey Pannier rails for my 2010 V7, but they don’t seem to be available.

Cheers. I’ll have a look online see if I can dig anything up.:+1:

I agree, i like touring but want security for my stuff, most panniers and top box are heavy, it’s worth looking at cheaper scooter ones which tend to be lighter.
