GRISO Values

Hi all
I have been quietly looking for a Griso 1200 SE for a while.
One has come up which is currently not on the market, but the owner is interested in selling.

2016 Reg in Red. 1200 miles. One owner. Garaged. Rollerised. Only the 1st service has been carried out at 700ml then it has only been ridden to the MOT station and back.

I;m trying to get my head around what its worth. The owner thinks its worth at least 8k because a dealer offered him 9k several years ago.

I think its base value is 5500, plus another grand for condition (visual) and the rarity of the colour.
Do you think my offering 6500 is about right?

thanks for any thoughts

I’ve a 2016 red Griso. Similar mileage. Bought it 9 months ago but not quite in pristine condition. It mostly is now. I’m the 3rd owner. I think your estimate is on the low side if it’s as good as you say.

As you say there’s not many of them about of that age, colour, or history and the guy doesn’t really want to sell either else it’d be being advertised. It would take close to the sort of money your guy wants to leverage my Griso out of my garage. If you want to buy you’ve got to pay. You could be waiting a long time before another comes on the market as good as this one.

Hi Austin
Thanks for that insight.
Can I ask roughly what u paid for yours ?
Was it the one that was at a specialist dealer advertised around the beginning of the year?
Cheers
alan

I paid more or less what you want to pay. But mine had stood under a cover for some time so had a bit of surface rust on nearly every nut and bolt, and paintwork and plastic was looking very flat. It turned out to be be easy enough to clean up. Just some elbow grease and time. I bought it in September 24. Private sale and was Advertised on Facebook and a few other places. Starting point was £7k. It was a long drawn out negotiation over about 10 days of viewings, phone calls and texts. A few miles under 13,000 when I got it but I’m not planning to much more than a couple of thousand a year on it.

Hi. Austin
That’s very helpful info. I bought my v85 in similar dilapidated condition for a reduced price. It proved fairly easy to return to a shiny state. I’d actually prefer to find one like that, but the red ones are thin on the ground.
We will see how things develop
Thanks

I would have thought £6000 or £6500 if you like the spoked wheels.
If the owner has proof that he has renewed the suspension linkage bearings the bike is worth £500 more - that is the replacement cost :frowning: . Even at that mileage corrosion could have eaten them. Also possible that the breather hoses need replacement £90 last time i looked

As an owner if the plastics are in good condition with no cracks that is also worth a lot as they are mostly unobtainable now.

Thanks for that. I doubt that either have been looked at let alone replaced. It’s only done 1200 miles in 9 years and only had its first service at 700 about a year after purchase. It has been dry stored and regularly started but even in a dry garage corrosion could be hidden away. The plastics are immaculate so one thing not to worry about.

There’s not many out there. I don’t think the data on this website is comprehensive but it’s a guide, add in wanting a specific colour and it’s even fewer…

I don’t think that’s very accurate! If it is I know the owners of 3/4 of the taxed bikes which seems unlikely. It does, however l, underline that it is a rare machine and should at least be stable in price and the best ones maybe appreciating.
Still negotiating atm

Like I said, it’s not comprehensive and even the owner of the website acknowledges that. But even if it’s out by 50% the numbers are still low. You/we are fishing in a small pond for what is after all a very desirable, underrated bike. I can only see values going up, especially when that underrating level goes away.

If you’d like to PM me, Alan, you may be interested in my Griso, a silver/black 2012 model, #2 factory roller engine. I was going to keep her until next year, having just had a full service and also fitted the MPH Cycles ‘startus interruptus’ mod. From what you say you’re looking for, mine fits the bill as she’s done a whisker over 9k miles and is very clean.
I’m the second owner, the first one being the previous co-ordinator for the Bucks branch of the club, so she’s known to the Guzzi fraternity.
Take a look at my profile for pics and a taster idea of how good this bike is!

pm-ed you
regards alan

I got a 2016 reg Griso 1200 SE in November. 13,000 miles, but looked immaculate, heated grips & a terrific Agostini zorst. Think I paid £5,900 to Wheels, the original dealer [one owner], came with all the service paperwork. I didn’t even try to haggle since it was obvious that the first person to test ride would buy, it was that nice. I don’t know if I paid the right price, but I do know that on the 5,000 miles I’ve done on her I’ve had the value of every penny in big smiles & laffs
I’m a natural cynic, so FWIW I don’t believe a dealer offered him 9k: there’s just no profit margin. But whatever you pay you are going to have s-o-o much fun.

That was a fantastic purchase Ruski and way too cheap imho. I would have thought easily worth another £1,000 on top of what you paid. Well done if only I’d waited a month or so from when I bought mine.

4 different models or types of GRiSO recorded on “How many left?”
You need to add them all up - I remember finding about 60% still around

As has been said on this forum before, the correct price for a secondhand bike is what the buyer is willing to pay. I would be wary of giving out values as bikes vary so much (mileage, condition, extras ets.) even if the same model.

Best wishes Chris
