Loud pipes and revving.

I’m on a weekend break with the wife and kids (who are 28 and 30 by the way ) and we went to Matlock today for a day out. Near the famous Matlock Bath. For the first time ever I was fed up with and embarrassed by the bikers with stupid loud pipes and those that kept revving as they were riding through the town. It was never ending and so annoying! Also completely unnecessary. I heard a few comments from people in the coffee shop I was in. I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point there weren’t restrictions or diversions for bikes. I hate to tar everyone with the same brush as there were just as many decent and considerate bikers but these will all be lumped together by the bike haters unfortunately. We all know the sort. Fully kitted up with knee sliders and full leather suits. Immaculate bike as it’s out twice a year and all thinking they’re the best riders as they’re happy to smash the speed limit when overtaking you. Sorry for the rant and I will get back to my hols now. I did see a V7 special and a beautiful Laverda so not a completely wasted day :blush::motorcycle::motorcycle:

It’s not just bikers though is it? Go to a car meet and you get the same infantile ‘rev bombing’ and with windows open at night (welcome back, Spring) those cars doing the pop-bang on overrun/gear-change. But you’re right - at a bike hot-spot like that it’s not going to end happily.

I remember being a semi-regular at ‘the Bath’ 40 some years ago, and it wasn’t pretty then. But that was before some bright spark ( sic ) invented the rev limiter.
What is it about just cranking it wide and letting the ignition cutout stop your engine grenading that makes these squids feel big ? Even the little kids by the side of the road 'round here give the right wrist twist ( not that one ) as I go by, so it’s ‘a thing’ everywhere, and has jumped age gaps.

Anyway, back to the topic. I think Matlock Bath relies on the revenue and has put up with it for half a century, so I don’t think they’ll come down too hard now.
But you’re right, it’s not good ambassadorship for motorcycling.

I’m not a fan of Matlock Bath, its like a rubbish seaside town without the sea.
There are lovely roads in the area though.

It was actually Matlock. Not Matlock Bath. I agree that Matlock Bath will persevere with the bikes for the revenu but the bigger town doesn’t need them.

Unfortunately there are Toers in every walk of life!

I keep forgetting how politically correct everything is now days! drives me nuts !-cant actually tell the truth anymore! I preferred the days of free and possibly rude speech! no wonder there is so many IDIOTS!!!- they can get away with anything !.worlds gone both mad & selfish!

As the population continues to grow, what is perceived by many as anti social behaviour will attract the unwelcome attention of politicians.
Riding around with poorly silenced exhausts is not conducive to the good image of motorcycling as a sustainable transport option.
This applies to every genre of bikes, sports, cruisers, motocross etc.

It is quite possible to express your opinion without swearing in fact you should consider it a challenge! Try and think of some long meaningful words that express how you feel, you do not have to swear to tell the truth!

The zero obscenity policy has been on this forum for as long as it has existed and will not change. This is a public forum and a window onto the club. If you are unable to type without swearing maybe you should consider posting elsewhere?

Have fun

stop posting altogether i reckon!- very little for me here these days anyway! might be time to take a hike!

Steve if 1957 is your year of birth then you are the same age as me, however you are acting like my grandson, “If I can’t play by my rules than I’m taking my ball away!”

Please take a few minutes to think about what has been said and then rejoin us in stimulating conversation about Moto Guzzi and associated wonderful things.

you should get into counselling!-(one way or another) and im “not acting” either.

They do make a strangled fart noise or a hoover mainly Jap bikes.

I agree about loud pipes to an extent. I love to hear a decent engine note, but rev-bombing is stupidity. Also on my list of dislikes are owners of Air-cooled, usually US made, V Twins who think they need to start them up 10 minutes before leaving anywhere and then have a shouty conversation as well! Helmet comms are a thing, FGS!
I also agree to an extent about avoiding profanity, although the word edited is hardly that. There’s not really any need for sanctimony either, though, is there?

There is no “extent” in this respect. It’s a forum rule, and you agreed to abide by them on joining. Thank you for your understanding,

I love riding my DT175 mainly because it’s anti socially noisy (and smelly.!), but there’s a time and a place.
The ‘profanity’ bit on here is a tad OTT in my opinion, and the reference used, stating the forum is open, and youngsters may be reading, in my experience doesn’t relate to life these days, heck (note use of ‘safe’ word ) I hear far worse, far more frequently at the infants school gates when picking up my grandkids, and though that comes mostly from mums and dads rather than the kids, even young children are aware of the terms these days and use them routinely with their peers (or maybe that’s just because I live in ‘Grim’ Grimsby ).
However, I agree, like noisy pipes, ‘industrial language’ can, for the most part, be happily avoided, well, until you hit you thumb with a hammer.!

So far as the sanctimonious bit..
I agree, I’ve certainly seen some responses I’d consider ‘sanctimonious’, (and I’m never sure whether those responses are ‘official’, or from a ‘normal’ member) these, in my mind, don’t align with the ethos of ‘rules’, and aren’t positive,
Ultimately, as mentioned, the rules is the rules, so we can abide or abort as desired.

Anyhow.. life’s too short, and it’s gonna be sunny this week, so let’s all get out on our favourite roads and rev the wotsits off our bikes while swearing like troopers under our helmets.. (but best turn the comms off first )
Woohoo… roll on summer :sun_with_face:

I guess this is not the forum for debate, but of course there is extent. I don’t believe the synonym for chucker which was auto-edited is profanity or “obscenity” as referenced above. Do you, really? If them’s the rules, that’s fine, but there’s surely always room to debate the rules. Or have I stumbled into tyranny?

If you would like to change the forum rules you will have to do so at the AGM. To get a rule change to be discussed, you will have to submit your proposal to the committee in sufficient time for it to be entered onto the meeting agenda.

To be honest it would be easier to just not swear or poke the moderators who volunteer to keep this forum running smoothly. I’m sure if you want to swear on the internet that there are places you can do that as there is also for anything else you can dream of, but I don’t see why you would want to swear on the forum of a motorcycle club.
