Hello all. Not actually a Moto Guzzi owner yet. In fact I don’t even have a full licence yet, but both of these issues will be sorted in the very near future. As incentive to myself, I have just reserved a V7 from a dealer in Northampton. I was considering a very nice looking 750 Breva in Cambridge, but, not really knowing what I was looking at, I decided to give it a miss. Shame as it looks beautiful and has done less than 10k.
Riding experience is almost zero. I had a 175cc CZ for a couple of years between 76 and 78, but never took my test. Did my CBT in October and have been riding about on the obligatory 125 since then.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to meet local branch members later in the year on something a little larger.
Greetings, and very interesting. Do you have a car licence? I ask because if you’ve not ridden a motorbike since 1978, your biggest challenge is going to be coping with modern traffic, and some of them are crazy, and dangerously so… Hopefully the training scheme will help.
Welcome to the Club. Have a look at the Branches page on our website and go to a Branch Meeting, the South Lincs Branch meets me Spalding. And don’t worry about turning up in a car, all that’s needed is enthusiasm for Guzzis.
Cheers Uki
Thank you. It looks as if South Linc’s meet at a pub which is fifteen minutes drive from me, I’m quite fortunate in that respect. As for how I get there, it would be either in a Transit Custom or on a Yamaha YBR at the moment
Hello Mike. Yes, I have held a full car licence since 1977 and have covered a fair few miles since then. From 1978 to 2010 I was a field service engineer and covered 35-50k a year.
I have been very lucky so far and have been treated with a surprising degree of courtesy by all road users, but I know that will end sometime. My driving experience has given me some ability to spot idiots before they do anything idiotic, but nobody is perfect and I do get taken by surprise sometimes. I am taking steps to improve my driving and intend to follow the same path when I get my full bike licence.
Hello again, Oh that’s good. Sorry I missed the part about you ‘currently riding around on a 125’. Might interest you to know I also have a AJS Cadwell, which is the YBR but with different clothes on! Not used it much lately, must amend that this year, still not fully run in yet!
I saw the Cadwell and other models on their stand at Motorcycle Live. If I ever decide that I want a 125 long term, I would certainly consider one. I spent 15 quid on raffle tickets for the type 20 AJS. What I thought I was going to do with it if I won it, heaven knows.
Shame there wasn’t a Moto Guzzi stand to visit. Do they tend to avoid UK shows?
Unfortunately that seems to be the case!
Well, I had a look at the Breva after all and then popped over to Northampton to look at the V7.
I’m having the Breva after all. Picking it up on Wednesday (hopefully).
Also had a chat with someone earlier today about training for mods 1 & 2
Congratulations on your purchase! I’m sure you will enjoy the Breva.
Cheers Uki
Thank you. I t is a beautiful looking bike and I am really looking forward to getting my licence and riding it.
Hello Eddie,
I joined the club after buying my first ever Moto Guzzi at the end of November 2021 - it was a Breva 750! I read up about them, they sounded pretty good and a quick ride was a thumbs up. I can safely say it’s the most enjoyable bike I’ve ever owned and I love it. The club people are so friendly and welcoming as the icing on cake.
Having passed my test in ‘76, I’d still had no training when I bought the Breva. I’m now doing an IAM course and the difference it’s made to my riding is huge. I can’t recommend getting some training too much. Not only am I faster and MUCH safer (for me and other road users), I enjoy riding the bike much more as well too.
I hope you have loads of fun on your Guzzi.
Welcome in better late then never, you are about to join the brilliant pastime and lifestyle of motorcycling. Good luck navigating those last hurdles it will be worth it.
Depending where you are I’m only about half an hour up the A1 from Peterborough if you fancy going for a ride sometime.
That would be great. I’m close to the A47, fifteen minutes from the junction with the A1, but I have to pass Mods 1& 2 first.
Do you go to South Linc’s meets at the Goat?
Not yet, where is it?
Deeping St James / Frognall.
Thanks for that. Looks nice.
