Can you believe that a sump plug for a V100 (1A023928) is over £60?
I have found it in the US for around £10, but they don’t ship small orders to the UK.
A plug for a BMW GS is under £10!
Any ideas?

Try these. Look like they do deliver for USA. I have got my glasses so check the number is the right one please.
Thanks. Those are the ones I found - £135 min order from US due to Brexit (according to the website). I might try to find someone in the US to forward it
Oh pity. I went almost to the end but stopped short of buying so obviously that’s where the warning pops up.
I will take it out and inspect the damage - somehow it has gouges in it. The dealer was concerned that the threads in the sump might be damaged and suggested replacement, too. I thought that was what helicoils are for!
Jeez, what are they made of… gold.?
Get yerself a £60 bottle of wine and hammer the cork in
measure the thread diameter and thread pitch and buy an Ebay “sump plug” to fit like this one M12x1.25 Magnetic Sump Plug for sale | eBay
You’ve tried guzzibits I assume ? otherwise do as 350lc suggested , it’s bound to be a metric thread , try a " thread file/ restorer " on it ?
Sadly, I can believe it.
We seem to get ripped off in the UK.
I wanted a USB socket and liked the look of the OE accessory one for the V7. Any supplier in the UK seemed to be £80-£90.
Found one from a main dealer in the Netherlands for £23. Same thing, same part numbers, sealed OE wrapping and brand new. The postage was steep, again ‘due to being the UK’ (so assume Brexit) according to their website at about the same again but even so half the price of buying in the UK.
To make the postage seem more reasonable I added some tank protection knee pads to the order (OE Guzzi) and these were £40 instead of £90 as they are here. Wasn’t sure if I wanted them or not but thought safe at that price as I can always eBay them and recoup my costs.
So annoying we are ripped off like this in the UK.
i get quoted ridiculous postage rates here in NI by some European countries even though we are still in the EU for customs purposes.
also have to pay £16 for parts from England even if its something tiny like washers, so i dont bother buying them until i need something else bigger.
Postage from Netherlands was the same as England last time I bought something, Italy wanted 70 euros for the same part just for postage
It’s not just down to Brexit although that doesn’t help. Postage charges even between EU countries are (IMO) ridiculously high. Cost of sending a single CD that I sold on ebay from France to the buyer in Holland was nearly 10 euros.
And shipping costs from the USA went through the roof well before Brexit…not sure why, but it’s a form of ‘tariff’ isn’t it?
Alex
Do you know the diameter and thread pitch of the plug? Shaw Engineering (others are available!) produce stainless steel sump plugs, if you know the specification.
strangely items from china arrive for free, chinese government must subsidise it somehow
From my understanding the postage is factored into the product cost
but some of the products are less than a fiver, yet they still arrive postage free. maybe they get so many orders they don’t care because they are shipping containers full over but it nakes the european costs seem outrageous
please stick to the (technical) topic subject. thank you.
I travel quite a bit for work, If they’re much cheaper Stateside let me know, then I’ll message before my next trip and bring a bag full back.
I took out the plug and measured it. The old plug has now been replaced with a stainless new one from AliExpress - fyi M18 x 1.5 (1.5 is the thread size). Cost £6 (with 20 aluminium crush washers, including shipping.) It really doesn’t make sense MG charging £70 for a replacement!
I agree mate. It’s like they just make up the prices and don’t care if they sell them. I buy loads off Ali Express as do a few on here. Glad you managed to sort it.
