Hi again everyone, new tyres needed for old bike. Somewhat predictable question but will the old alloy wheels take a tubeless tyre or is the rim profile incorrect? Can you use modern tubeless type tyres with a tube (because of the rim profile)?
I assume that you have cast wheels on your Le mans? I have just fitted Battlax BT 46 to Borrani spoked rims with innertubes, so far no problem, but I haven’t ridden it yet!
Hi Chris, yes that’s what I meant - the wheels are the cast items, as opposed to alloy rims/spokes.
Not so sure then as I do not know what the cast rim profile is like. I thought that the Le Mans wore the same tyres as spoke wheel models but you will have to wait for a Le Mans owner to confirm.
best wishes Chris
I used to run Battlax tyres with tubes on cast alloy wheels. The only problem is getting them to seat onto the beads when fitting but otherwise fine and lots of people use them.
I’ve been using BT45s on my T3 Polizia for my 17 years of ownership, which is of 1983 manufacture and has cast wheels. You can’t fit tubeless tyres without tubes; they aren’t designed for it. I’ve found the Bridgestone BT45s to be excellent in both dry and wet, and an all year round tyre. The BT45 has been superceded by te BT46, which I’ve just fitted to my 2015 Triumph Thruxton. Not had any road time on them yet, but I’m sure they’ll be as good as the BT45s.
What he said. Ran BT46 on my Spada on my trip to Mandello via the Stelvio and a couple of other passes. Quite happy with them.
PS I previously had BT45s and run BT45s on my Cali 1100i
Ouch. Looks like BT 46’s, then.
TBH, I have used Bridgestone “T” series tyres for some years on a number of bikes and always got on with them.
I know this is slightly off piste, but I’m running S23s on my V100 and really like them, so the T46 will do nicely for the Lemon.
If they were designed to originally then yes. My 1982 CX500 has tubeless tyres (1st production bike to have them I believe). You’ll need to make sure the rims are properly cleaned as any corrosion at all will affect tyre seating and cause slow leaks.
Continental Classic Attack tubeless radials on my LM2.
Hi Alastair
Are you running these with tubes?
Thanks
S23
Running without tubes
You could get them in the sizes ? I didn’t think they made them.
Rear is 110/90 R18
Front is Conti Road Attack 100/90 R18
Any chance of a photo?
Thanks.
