Took the Goose out for a couple of hours yesterday, this time I had the GoPro working. The clip shows us going through a village at sub 30mph in 4th, 3rd and 2nd. No nasty throttle hiccups, although the bike runs smoothly, it doesn’t like going much below 30mph in 4th (not sure why anyone would want to, but I did it just to see the result). The mod’’s are;
Mistral Decat. (Chinese one at £250 had same effect for a lot less money).
Mistral v boost.
Velocity stack and DNA air filter element.
What a lovely day for a ride. Glad the mods are working. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for the update and video.
At the moment I just have the Mistral V Twin Boost Plug fitted which improved smoothness and pickup low to midrange.
Did you test each addition independently and if so what made the most significant change?
I did the de-cat first. The difference in running temperature was very noticeable as was the increase in mid range power and throttle response although the low rev hiccuping was still there. The addition of the v-boost smoothed things out dramatically. The air filter and velocity stack were more about complementing the de-cat and v-boost than in any real expectation of a dramatic change. Having said that the bike has been transformed from wha it was when stock and with the cooler running temperatures there is no pinking at all.
i did all those mods except the air filter, not sure if i will change that too, did you try it with stock vs the new one? any difference?
In all honesty the difference was not discernible to me, the bike felt slightly more responsive to the throttle but that might have been my imagination. It was about the only thing I hadn’t done and I have used DNA filters before and been really pleased with them
I really fancy the 2-1 pipe for the loss of weight, oil drain access and looks.
But i don’t want more exhaust noise - does it make much difference?
Slightly louder and slightly deeper exhaust note . Definitely not offensive, I used the standard silencer. The first thing you would notice is how much cooler the bike runs. I would definitely fit the v-boost as well though. This was a run we took on Saturday afternoon. Using GoPro hero 11 with standard mic, so gives a good idea of sound levels.
Thanks Mick i will keep it on my next-year-list
it sounds louder to the rider but the not much until you get over over 4 or 5k rpm. i got someone to film me riding past flat out and it isn’t really much louder for people nearby. at low revs it is hardly noticeable unless you’re right next to it.
i just got my bike back from service and wondered why it’s lumpy at low rpm in traffic…
during service of course the tray comes out to change the air filter, which is where i had run the sensor wire on top of. when reassembled the wire was left under the tray, so its picking up the heat of the engine. very noticable what a difference it made when it isnt working!
Not wrong Sid. It’s so annoying reading some of the negative comments about the Mistral v-boost. There’s one guy in particular who threatens to remove anyone from his Guzzi page who has anything good to say about them, apparently they are all rubbish and anyone saying otherwise is a ‘snake oil salesman.’ Meanwhile he will sell you his remap system which apparently cures everything and goes on to say he has got 100hp out of a v85tt. That’s great if you race one and don’t mind rebuilding it every 5 minutes. Not sure how long a v85tt would last on the road with that kind of power being put through the standard tranny and shaft? Mistral test every component on the dyno. They have a fantastic reputation and I for one have used Mistral products for years without a single problem.
Mine seems to work.
May I add rather well !
Excellent, what mod’s have you made?
Hello from sunny Toronto. I have fitted the following to my 2020 V85TT it is a Euro 4 model. Mistral header pipes, Agostini exhaust link pipe, Agostini silencer (E4), Booster plug and Volocity stack. I am very happy with the overall result MPG is down to 56MPG from 61 but performance is up.
I hope the photos arrive, so you can see the before and after.
I have bought lots of other accessories so now it not only looks the part it can ride the ride and does all over the back roads and tracks in Northern Ontario.
Looks great Mick. I hope you are fit and well.
Chris H
Hello Chris, long time no see. All well here but at my age a few issues are to be expected. I also have a Griso.
I ride all year round a bit difficult in winter but you have got to keep trying. Say hello to the branch members for me, good times at the pub and the ride home down Sutton bank was always exciting.
Hi Mick Its good to hear from you. Nice to see you are still on Guzzis
I will pass on your regards to the branch members
Hi Mick. Wandering a bit off message - but your posting tells me we are definitely on the same Guzzi page. I’ve just returned to the fold - '21 V85TT - after 40 years away but am surprised to find I am unable to buy (or find) a suitable rear paddock stand so that I can eventually do my tappets. Is there really none out there that will do the job? Do I really have to have a centre stand fitted?
Hi. Good to hear another ‘oldie’ like me returning to bikes lol. I am also a fan of paddock stands but couldn’t find one that would fit the v85tt. I finally bit the bullet and bought a centre stand and in all honesty it has turned out to be far more useful than I initially expected.
