Am considering fitting booster plug, does it definitely help it from surging at low revs?
No. It will appear to help the first time you ride the bike after fitting, then the ECU compensates for its presence and it’s back to normal.
Ah, I didn’t know that could happen, thanks for the reply
I always buy the best fuel I can get and never experience ''surging ‘’ .
My v85tt is horrible below 20mph, surging all over the shop. Bloody horrible but i still love it.
I have had terrible throttle response with a TPS out of adjustment. I wouldn’t assume that dealers will have set it up correctly.
Ah, ok, thank you
Fitted a booster plug to mine and it made all the difference. Smooth as anything at low revs now
Sounds good, how long have you had it on? And is it working as good now as when you first fitted it? Just that somebody said the ECU works it out after a while, and overrides it. I’m hoping that’s not true, as I’ve got one on order now . Cheers
the surging issue is related to stray electrical impulses being picked up on a sensor wire. there is free fix if you take it back to the dealer, they sleeve the wire.
.mine was doing this at low speed on roundabouts and it wasnt good. it was fixed while i waited in less than 30 mins. tank lifted, sleeve fitted, tank back on.
the booster plug changes the fuel mixture on open throttle, it works by feeding a lower ambient temperature to ecu because you are moving the location of the sensor away from the engine.
on cruise control or low throttle openings below 13% or so, it has no effect and the bike reverts to the standard fuel map. i will take mine off before the MoT is due, 5 minute job.
I’ve had mine on over a year and you’ll know it’s still changing the fuel mix on startup as the sensor is used when engine isnt up to running temperature as well, you can smell the difference because it runs richer.
the main reason to fit one is if you de cat the bike, i fitted one before i did a decat and it made a very small difference. the decat makes a very big difference. since the bike is more responsive and fun due to more HP and less weight, I tended to get much lower mpg just because I’m doing more overtakes and generally hooning about more. if i ride sensibly i still can get over 67mpg. The most i got before booster plug and decat was 68.8mpg, so it does not mean any big drastic increase in fuel usage if you dont change how you ride.
i listed some links to a website by a guy in australia who does frequent remaps of marelli ecus, it’s in another thread here. he goes into far more detail how it works and how the ecu adjusts to remaps.
Thanks for that information, cheers
Have spoken to guzzi dealer in Leeds, they are going to speak to motoguzzi and look into workaround with wiring sleeve and come back to me
Ah, ok, thanks, I’ll keep my ears open. Thanks
Piaggio are aware of it, it didnt bother me except on rounabouts, but that was a bit disconcerting as of course when it surges and you are low speed leaning right, maybe with clutch in, it gives a wobble when you’re already leaned over and low momentum to keep it balanced.
Cheers for the post, I’ve actually ordered a v twin boost, so, fingers crossed
Interesting to hear how you get, so many conflicting opinions on this mod
I know, when I’ve added mine, I’ll probably come back to this thread, and give my experience with it, cheers
Is your bike by chance a 2021 ? I had dreadful issues from new. Two issues and it ended up 1. Having a new head and valves. A hardening process on the valves had not been carried out correctly, they were wobbling in the valve guides after 200 miles !. 2. I also had throttle issues at low speed, it was sort of cured perhaps they did what you say, the dealer has now closed Chichester. I did though take it for a dealer service and had the latest software, much smoother for sure.
Have you got the latest Guzzi software update ? Just had mine done 2021 bike transformation.
