What did you do with your Guzzi today? 2025

You know what to do…

My first ride of the year…100 miles to the Baffle Haus and back.

Roads a bit slimey and 2-5 degrees lol, but bright and clear -lovely day

sorry too cold to stop for photos

Alas, absolutely nothing other than checking that all was well with battery maintenance . Frost and ice have remained from the overnight sub zero temps here :sleepy:. Roll on the Spring :slightly_smiling_face:

I moved the Optimiser from one bike to the next, I will rotate again, to the next bike and then to the spare battery and to another battery that I’m not sure what it’s off!!:grin:

Just the same with me. Gave my VMax 1200 an oil & filter, & brake fluid change on NYD, moved the optimizers around to keep each battery charged, bought a set of Pirelli Angel GT tyres to replace the old rubber on the Coppa Italia. To cold & frosty to venture out, roll on Spring & better weather

140 miles in Wales, Forest of Dean, and SW midlands.
Cold dirty work but if you lot are all lazing with your feet up …
someone’s got to do it!

Now, who’s gonna clean the Guzzi?

Oh yeah - me

I have started rebuilding a spare Stornello engine that I picked up off ebay a few months ago. Fitted a couple of the new bearings in the right hand cases, just 3 to fit in the left side and I can bolt up the bottom end. The engine is very well designed.

Well, I set my V85 on fire. Do I have your attention now?

Starter button stopped working a couple of weeks ago, nothing happens when pushed. Seems it’s just worn out with 50,000 miles in a couple of years. Replacement parts ordered, but meanwhile I’ve taken to starting her with my Special Tool, AKA a bit of copper wire to bypass the starter motor relay. Works great, starts first time.

Except that this morning it didn’t. No problem, I thought. Parked outside during the storm, probably a bit of damp & dirt in there. So I give the starter motor contacts a blast of EC90 followed by some compressed air to blow the cobwebs away. Touched the wire to the contacts and YES, got a spark. Followed by the whole starter motor area bursting into flame.

This was definitely the most excitement I’ve ever had in a driveway at 6am, as I tried to damp the flames while simultaneously concocting the insurance claim.

Having put the fire out I took the starter motor cover off, wiped everything down, & was about to again deploy the Special Tool now known as Firestarter. Then I thought, wait a minute, I wonder what happens if I just try to start her the way normal people do. So I pushed the starter button. And she started first time.

So today’s Pro Tip is if your Guzzi won’t start SET THE BSTRD ON FIRE. Show her who’s boss.

50,000 miles that’s impressive.
Glad it liked being flambéed

Any other bits worn out or broken?

Brilliant
I may know ‘someone’ who set their own car on fire… having carefully checked the oil, ‘someone’, having wiped the dipstick, forgot to remove the oily rag used off the exhaust manifold… what a dipstick
Those plastic bonnets on Citroen BX’s burn well…. :fire:

I want that just for the name. Although it does say keep out of reach of children, so perhaps they won’t sell it to me.

A car! Respect! That’s even better than a bike.

Had problem with the rear tyre at about 30,000 miles

Plenty of tread left for the twisty bits…

Did the Ogri MCC Kickstart rally . There was a fire there too.

For info… the ‘Start ya B@‘ engine stuff is widely available on the shelves in countries without the ‘sensitivities’ some, like the moderators of this site, feel the need for, check Google.
I guess good old Anglo-Saxon words are too ‘cosmopolitan’ for some

Indeed I was told off by the site for using that very word

The moderators are only here to help you adhere to the forum rules. What you say to your pals in the pub is not the same language that you should use on this open public forum that is also a shop window to the MGCGB, where not only big boys, like you, visit but also children.

There are key words that are automatically rejected or replaced by the system and not manually by the moderators, it was set up by previous webmasters but I do not know the full lexicon. Play nicely :innocent:
