What did you do with your Guzzi today? 2026

Another busy morning in the garage. Working on the V50 with my dad, this is the second project we’ve done since he retired ( the first was a rare 1982 4 cylinder Suzuki GS500E).

Three coffees each drunk, rebuilt the front end, airbox in, wheels on. Wiring install planned.

Im really liking this bike and I’ve not ridden it (or any Guzzi) yet.

That design of that frame looks so right. No wonder they outhandled the CX500 according to road tests of the period, (I’ve never ridden either bike but I did have a GS550E and it was heavy and slow but very reliable unlike the RD350LC that replaced it which was light, fast and exploded its motor).

Jeff what did you say???

Just about my starter motor, couldn’t work out whether I’d added my posts to the thread or ‘replied’ out of context to the previous person.

The phone displays things differently to the laptop when on the forum.

Sooo… the *clonk* spinny, whirry, tube of startiness, which was functioning a month ago decided to go “NO” in a very final fashion.

Commutator appeared to be very reluctant to revolve, but worked well as a smoke machine. Further investigation was met with carbon brushes not badly worn, so let’s drill the rivets out and have a look - can’t make it any worse.

Yes, absolutely right, hard to imagine how this set of magnets (yes, that black mass used to be separate magnets glued to the inside of the stator case) could be made any worse. Apparently Valeo starters of a certain age do have this feature…

So, more expenditure. Ah well, not the finest riding weather currently.

nice, I always fancied a V9, nice paint on that one too

Thanks - dry and not too cold. I always try to keep it primed as you do get the odd days in Jan or Feb to go out for a few hours.

I did notice the rear disk getting a little bit hot so may have a dragging piston or partially seized pad on the rear so will strip it down, check the Caliper pistons, lube the pins and maybe stick a new set of pads in.

As it reached a heady 8c here in the east of Dumfriesshire, I dodged most of the showers and had an hour out on the Mandello…

Well done you! I’m still waiting up here for a decent gap in the temps/deluge stakes. Soon please, soon?

Good work. I really need to get out and ride. I need to get waterproofs on and ignore the rain.

The temps ain’t too bad. Full face helmet and some warm clothes/thermals and it’s definitely worth a blast if it’s dry :+1:

I ride all year, the problem is the salt :frowning:

If it’s dry you will be ok as they ain’t been salting roads much….even in the central belt of Scotland( so far)

in NI we can check online when they grit or not, you’d be surpised how often it takes place in marginal conditions.

I used to drive a gritting lorry and it ate my cars alive driving home from work afterwards.

I also rode to work a few times on my 125 which strangely seemed to suffer less, maybe just easier to protect/clean…

loading the lorry was fun, I like driving loading shovels lol

:+1: perhaps the winter is yet to arrive in many parts of the central belt of Scotland as it’s been incredibly mild in recent weeks with some clean dry roads

180 miles of S Wales & the Marches - 2-7 degrees but drying out over the day, Really nice views to the snowy hills and mountains.

Received my new and lower M shock on return - really looking forwards to next weeks ride
