What did you do with your Guzzi today ? .......

I still need to make up a new harness for my rear lights. I had more probs with the rear/brake on return from the Golden Eagle - thought it might have been as a result of losing patience with some speed humps my sat nav had taken me over on the way home. But no - still some weird earthing around the bulb holder … may be. Hmmmm.

Certainly if you are suffering any kind of tyre creep it is for sure going to tear out whether you have a nut fitted or not. Maybe stops the damp getting in. I take the nuts off the valves on my race bicycle when doing time trials - saves loads of weight.

Err - so back on subject then; as is usual at the moment I rode Blue over to the main line railway station this morning and then home again this evening.

If it helps my tail light unit includes an earth wire so does not rely on the metalwork it might be screwed onto ~ not surprising really as it’s mosty plastic

~ but as my rear indicators are on the rear carrier I have added an earth wire for that too, as its mountings to frame have become unreliable as electrical connectors.

Yeah - I’ve laid in an extra earth lead for now, so not sure why I have continuing problems. The harness has rub marks from the rear tyre under the mudguard (hence my concern on the speed humps … taken at speed). I need a new harness inc. earth, and better routing. When I can get around to it.

Or you could have a dump, even better.

Off to work in a mo on me daytona…yipeeeeeeee…

Trundled o er to the Raven Caff for some tea after work…damn, Â that Dato is quick…

Oooh no don’t like the sound of that at all ~ my Bantam was like that, there once were metal clips inside the mudguard to hold it up but of course had rusted away eons ago…

Nothing on the Guzzi today (or any other bike), but I changed the engine oil in the lawn mower. So what, you may say, (and with all reasonableness) well A. it had never been changed before; and B. the mower is now >20 years old. (!!)

The drain plug needs a square key type thing, and advice I found on the net sez you can use a 3/8" socket drive (it’s a Briggs & Stratton engine [American]).

So I bought a 1/2 to 3/8 adaptor and it did the biz!! Proper job.

It also got a new spark plug.

Lots of miles this week on the 1200 Sport in the fab weather. Couple of hundred miles last weekend for the Wilshire camp, and then tonight got back from meeting in Hemel Hemstead following business trip. Previous day in Brussels, so 685 miles in 3 days and nearly 900 for the week. With commuting on the triumph this will be an easy 1000 mile week.
Traffic in Brussels was a nightmare, don’t recommend riding there in rush hour. Only 1 scuff mark on the pannier though.

Tunnel was £30 return by the way.

Went for a 50 mile ridey round this afternoon after changing the distributor cap and rotor arm on the V7, adjusting points, checking timing, changing air filter and sync-ing the carbs. An amazing change from the bike that went to the clocks forward rally. It’s less of a handful, starts better, pulls better and doesn’t run out of puff like it did. Even gearchanges have got better and are less clunky! https://racingrhino.wordpress.com/2015/04/23/v7-tune-up-23-apr-2015/

Mike, tomorrow I too will be servicing the lawnmower.

Lawnmower Men…

Only sometimes.

When the grass needs cutting

It’s not an obsession or anything

Yes John - there is a bit of fun involved in getting the air cleaner boot to fit properly. I have found that soaking it in some really hot water for a while softens it a bit which makes life easier. Carb balancing amazed me with how much better the whole bike felt - I need to do mine again but am waiting for my Davida gauges to come back from loan to someone.

Ian

I took the gauges back to the lender this morning. He said I could keep them as he’s got another set! It was originally a set of 4 Davida gauges but 2 have been replaced as something fell on them. I’ve split them so I’ve got a set of Davida gauges for a twin. These were the ones I had used. The mounting had a hinge in the middle so I’ve separated them there. Was going to look for some at the Stafford show tomorrow but now I can save my pennies.

Mite see ya there tomoz John…Â

I’ll be going near the showground tomorrow but sadly not able to go. Will be at Cosford on Sunday with my loop, and weather is looking hopeful.

Another couple of bits arrived for the X10, then, assuming no more deliveries of any sort for today, and as it was a hot day again, I went out the back to start looking at reassembling the X10.

Got the footboard all prepared ready to go on, but find I deffo do need the new front cross member; front bolt holes of the footboard subframe won’t line up with the original bracket cos it’s still too badly distorted, so I still need the new one to see how it’s supposed to fit. With the footboard subframe in the correct approximate position, the holes are about 10mm out. :exclamation:

Still, couple more little jobs still to do!

I did Holland this morning. It’s very flat. This afternoon I did a big chunk of Germany; the bit where it rains all the time :frowning:

Rode em to Stafford Show…where we parked next to a lovely Magni Guzzi…Guy got some bits for the Bonnie he is restoring…we saw V7 John…Don Spada…Monica and Rich and Al Heaton…a grand day out…
