What did you do with your Guzzi today ? .......

They’t a rum 'un…
Today…I have been mostly fetching Kawasaki’s…tho I did manage to purchase an old loop…oops…Â

Again?!

Er…yes…
Here it is…may turn out to be a huge can of worms…but tis probably worth its purchase price for parts…however…I dont like breakin em so we’ll see…Â

Check them bores! Is it from the USA?

Yep…as of yet…just washed him off…uj is f***ed, no big job…bike showing surface rust…but no real shite…turns over…

Looks a lot better in the “after” photo. The engine looks super clean! Love the Wixom bags!

Many wouldn’t know what they were jmee…fairing too…minus screen…
ps…engine cleaner…Elbow Grease…99p a time…good stuff…Â

Been investigating the mysteries of BMW wheel bearings ~ the 2nd hand cast rear I’ve acquired has its bearings still left in it but are totally fcuk’d, speshly the left side. Have given to bike shop over the road to change the shells.

Got the R80 going again, put new battery on today and it started, last time was 2008!

Actually not that simple did also first strip carbs for inspection, rinsed out tank cleaned filters, fresh fuel in etc. and new fuel hoses.

However discovered I really need new brake hoses, the black colour comes off on everything that touches them! That doesn’t seem right! (Read as, perishing rubber … :open_mouth: )

Hit the starter button on Brian but he wasn’t having any,soo dragged the RSV out for a great run with good friends up to the carding shed (recommended),and back through Derwent dams and high peak, turned out nice again !!..Â

Grand day out
+1 for the Carding Shed and great roads in the area.
Took the direct route back and got an hour n the garage before teatime.

Rode it home from the NW200. Got wet. very, very wet.

I’ve been most industrious this last week.

V7Sport - Played about with the wheel bearings, fitted the exhaust system and other bits and pieces. As usual it’s all in my blog https://racingrhino.wordpress.com/2015/05/17/a-whole-lot-of-stuff-17-may-2015/

V7 loop - Adjusted the headlamp so that I can see more of the road and less of the treetops. Can’t get rid of what I think is a generator belt squeal. It could be something worse. https://racingrhino.wordpress.com/2015/05/17/light-and-sound-17-may-2015/

Went to the Borders and Mid Wales section meeting today. It was at the pub accross the road but they didn’t make us very welcome so we decamped to a cafe a few miles away in Llangrannog. We were joined by Seb on his Ambasador, which was nice.

Ding ding - seconds away round two… The V50 mk2 pick up tails were in a dreadful condition so like many others I did some microsurgery, taking care not to fracture the wires coming out of the units. New wire added to old bits and plenty of glue gun, heat shrink and new glass fibre overlay makes a passable job and now have correct resistances on both - Should now have a reliable spark on the right hand pot.
Issue to day is to set up the pick ups as per the w/shop manual. The fact that the flywheel does not have D & S markings threw me for a couple of minutes. Guzziology confirmed Luigis bad joke. He is a wag!

Picked agger on Friday.
God it was awfull as everything was in the wrong place.
Now used to it, the engine is creamy smooth, very un Guzzi.
Fitted a satnav mount to it Sunday and will be ordering a Baglux tank bag base today
By my estimate I have spent £6,300.00 so far this month.
Naughty but fun.

Don’t forget getting the air gap betwixt sensor and trigger is vital.

The manual is again a source of much confusion: a figure shows the air gap of 0.15 - 0.2 mm but the text quotes 0.2 to 0.3 mm. I plumped for 0.2mm.
Its running but there are a number of carb issues to sort out: throttle cables to adjust, lifting of slides to feel / synchronise, leak on r/h carb float chamber. Hopefully that will eliminate poor starting (its popping and farting before catching). Runs up smoothly to 4.5k rpm but there is a leak off the right hand pot - need to torque it up again. Then stick on the Morgans tune sticks and see where we get too. Also need to get some fresh fuel. One area I am not sure of is the use of additives for the v/vs. Yah or nay? Made up a plastic slide from a Ribena bottle to fit around the crankshaft, marked off at 180 degrees to allow alignment of raised mark on the pick ups and the slot on the twirly bit on the other side of the crankshaft. Seems as accurate as I get get for now.

Might migrate this to small blocks.

Sorry, my last note wasn’t so clear. I meant that it is vital to have the air gap the same for both sensors. I have never used additives on my V50, and I’ve probably done around 15k miles since leaded fuel left the building. It does require high octane though and really doesn’t go at all well on 95.

Well I believe I have set them to the same 0.2 mm air gap but am getting a misfire on the right hand pot. If I can get it to run through this it is quite smooth in the upper rpm. I am going to check v/vs again, look at the carb on that pot and then recheck the gap. I believe that it is possible to run the machine without the alternator stator and rotor and may go this route. I take your point that the gaps have to be exactly the same. I take it the air gap is not critical and will stick with 0.2mm meantime.
Moving this thread to small block…Â http://www.motoguzziclub.co.uk/phpbbforum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=24406

Today I cleaned out the V65SP’s braking system, I dont do as much winter riding now as compared to past years, many a reason for that, but I still manage the odd winter rally and a few camping weekends, and there were small signs of where the winter salt had got into the places you dont want it to go, so it was a good clean up of the brake pistons etc and a full brake fluid re-bled all round, no problems not even a problem getting the bled nipples out, dash off PlusGas all round and a good ring spanner (never a open-ended one) and out they came, easy.
