Fixed running problems on my Imola was only the dam condenser !
I bought a spare for good luck
All set for the Fest now.
See you there, it looks like it’ll be the lil’Breva again this year.
I’m beginning to think this Bella is a figment of your imagination Ian, I’ve yet to see it.
What’s wrong with the old nail now??
yesterday the norge was sunbathing in my garden waiting to be taken to wetwang this evening. yesterday and today i will mostly be deconstructing (as our over the pond relations like to call stripping a bike down) my Monza. the steel brake pipe to flexi brake pipe join has been soaking to hopefully free them, then i’m ready to wheel away the top frame and head-stock. Happy days will post pics as i go along my wonderful wife wants it to be on our vow renewal photos so wish me luck (turbo heater already purchased to stave off hypothermia)
The MkIII, nothing, my neighbour is spending a fortune on it.
The lil’Breva, not much, just needs a cleanup, some paint and new breather pipes.
Oh, you mean the new bike-
The ignition switch is us.
Waiting for a new one from Italy.
On holiday this week so catching up with a few jobs:
Trying to fix the annoying overrun spitting and banging on the Spada. Checked timing on the RITA and seems spot-on, so just waiting for some Bosch spark plugs to replace the NGK ones. According to popular wisdom, this will fix it! However I did notice that the LH inlet elbow had one capscrew not tight, so maybe an air leak? Not sure if I didn’t tighten it when I put it all back together or if it’s loosened itself.
On the 850GT I finally got round to washing the clutch out with white spirit. What a messy job compared to the Spada - seems my bellhousing is porous so it was spraying out in all directions. Anyway the stuff that drained out the bottom didn’t seem at all dirty (unlike the Spada) so I’m not hopeful it will make any difference

Treat it to some new exhaust gaskets and possibly a smear of Gum Gum exhaust sealant. An air leak at the head to exhaust is the usual cause of popping and banging on the overrun.

Also should have aluminium sealing washers.
What I will be doing.
New ignition switch for the Bella arrived at work today.
I have been riding the Le Mans to work each day this week, so that’s 240 miles so far since Mon. Perfect riding weather at the moment, not too hot or cold, clean roads for once, although round here we are still recovering from the most extensive bout of top dressing I have ever seen in one summer. Most of the gravel is now clear though.
Enjoying the Le Mans after its very expensive Moto Corsa service last week. Cost a fortune, although I have noticed the handling is a little better now they have replaced the worn front wheel bearing. The brakes are also quite a bit better now I have a new rear master cylinder that doesn’t even leak, amazing!. The bike also needed new rear tyre and new rear pads and of course all the oils, filter, valve clearances, carb adjustment etc. This was the first gearbox oil change since the box rebuild a couple of years ago, and they also adjusted something so the gearbox is easier now. They said the engine oil was black even though I only replaced it in Feb, wonder why this is?
Not using the 1200 at the moment as I am still waiting for the connecting pipe for the new Quill to come back from them, hopefully having been correctly resized. Had to measure the pipe for them and send it back. Not great customer service but my recommendation is if ordering from them, give them some measurements first so they can get it right first time. They mumbled about the pipe diameter changing on the 1200 at some point, which knowing Guzzi may well be right, but I did give them the year of the bike at the beginning.
Just rode mine for the fun of it. I don’t know if it’s the longer journeys I have been taking recently, or that the carbs are synchronised at their best since I have had it, but fuel consumption seems about 10% better than usual.

so sorry to the east yorks members got working on my monza didn’t realise until it was too late so it’ll have to be next month until i get to meet you all
Fitted the new ignition switch to my Bellagio, after a worried moment until I realised I had played with the kill switch when the problem first occurred, it fired.
Yippee, the Bellagio will be going to the Festival.
Popping and banging fixed, must have been an air leak on the inlet side. Celebrating with all-day breakfast at Sleap airfield cafe.
NOS W225 plugs will be useful another day.
Need to drop the sump off next and sort the small weep of oil. What’s the general opinion on using the gasket dry or with sealant? I have a new paper gasket.
When I sold my 1984 MkIII last year it was still using its original sump and rocker gaskets, totally leak free.
I just smear some old engine oil round them before re fitting.
Thank you Mr D - no sealant then.
Couple more jobs to go on the list now - RH heel plate fell off somewhere in Shropshire so I’ll need to make another one and there’s a grumble developing in the the final drive.
Home servicing the Cali 1400.
Air filter a bit fiddly. Oil filter easy once I found the correct cup size…76mm x 12 flute, though replacement is 8 flute. Two new tools in box now. Only one drain plug on sump…had me fooled for a while. Gearbox oil next. Rear bevel doesn’t need attention yet…will get done when wheel off for tyre change. Tappets to set tomorrow.
Quite nice to work on once stands/balance is sorted…size and weight is the issue.
Well…last nite in fact…we did a vintage run from Moorville Hall on the Loops…the rain stayed away and we saw places we have never seen before and the gentleman leading the run even had the pub make us a few butties…proper…
After replacing the clutch on my Eldorado I found my UJ was starting to wobble. I ordered new centre crosses (what is their name?) and fitted them yesterday. Then decided the battery tray needed painting, then the starter motor, then the brake stay, then…

Thank you Mr D - no sealant then.

As per Ian Dunmore I too have never needed to change gaskets since buying my MK V in 1991. Just a clean and a smear of grease all round.
