What did you do with your Guzzi today ? .......

well, yesterday… put myself out of the running for the Branch meet by thoroughly beating myself up on a 20k walk including the Ingleby Incline and off-the-beaten-track Baysdale, all made possible by the ride out on the Guzzi.
Parked up at Battersby Juction station (gated, remote, recommended) changed me clobber and hoofed it from there.
Motorised sections enlivened by good-natured jousting with Audiists (have most of them got bikes at home?) and a white van seemingly driven by The Stig.

I managed not to t bone a mini that pulled out in front of me.Bike was sliding all over the place but I stayed rubber down and stopped in time.Wish the lil’Breva had linked brakes.Female mini driver was very apolagetic. I didn’t even swear at her.

Er, rubber down and shiny side up, surely?

Correct. But I think my mistake was excusable.

Wheeled it out for a wash, 2caps of AutoGlym Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner with rust inhibitors in half a big bucket. The inhibitors do appear to slow down the inevitable when used to keep a clean bike. Chammied it dry and went for a ride to roast the remainder off.
Twenty miles or so before the school runners clog the works between Guisborough/Stokesley, doubling the rollercoaster A173 a couple of times.
Had a super pass coming out of the 30 N out of Gt Ayton, took a van+caravan combo then a lardy Merc sports job on the downhill, too late to brake for the switchback Right then humpback Left over the railway so went through on an open throttle at an honest *ixty-plus, feeling the swingarm and tyre come up with the goods. Checked they were all snug, clean and warm in the garage after arriving back from work on me zedder, a trifle damp…x

proud of you all the only wet i got today was inside with Thos Watkins Blodwyn…

Guy had a count up and realised we have six spare starters in various degrees of health, (along with 17 brembo calipers, five petrol tanks, six seats etc etc…)
So he decided to set about reconditioning a starter, skimming commutator etc.
My lemans is the test mule…he fitted his first attemp, a bosch…Great Success…startin a production line…

petrol tank and seat !!! i am still deseperately in need .

Morning Folks, hoping to get out into the shed for an hour or two, trouble is, it’s so full of bikes and bike related stuff in order to get in and actually do something I have to move stuff outside and then back in afterwards, which is fine if its not raining, no pun intended. I shouldn’t complain though, a lot of people have to manage without a shed of course.

Couple of t3 spada tanks tho Guy prob wants to hang on to them, mk4 le mans tank off me racebike, sound, coupla little dents but large underside cutouts to clear different oil feed sighting due to twin plugs…
I know its on here somewhere but give me a quick precis of whats up with your originals, Guy is pretty good with fuel collanders and I’m handy with seats and covers…!

and g4, pity u arent closer else we’d come give you a hand…guykate2014-02-08 11:17:41

Tank was left bare stripped of paint for nigh on 20 yrs, have done about 8 localised braze repairs last pressure test revealed two more, nightmare gues sing i will be chasing the corrosion forever. the seat’s plastic base has broke its back across the angled lift at the front could reinforce with an ally plate and pop rivets perhaps plus the seat cover is kettled. I would love to keep the Mk2 tank its a beautiful shape. The love of my life

It is indeed a beautiful shape…
If you could get it to us Guy will take a look at it…for what its worth, at work we use tank sealant called Gold Seal (will check have got name right)…it is brilliant stuff and unaffected by ethanol.
A couple of our bikes use that seat, Stucchi is it ?
Am goin to nip up to the spares dept and have a look now…

Thank you kindly Kate, the seat is the original not sure about its manufacture still have a lot to learn about this fine marque. The tank, i have been quoted £250 for a refurb a genuine guy in the valley who do the inside coating (ethanol resistant ) he wasnt happy to see brazed repairs but would carry out the work and refinish in the Black and Gold styling. Hmmm

Yesterday I replaced the steering lock on the Cali, and the lemon,
I also fitted fork gaiters to the Cali and in doing so replaced the fork oil,

I have new throttle and choke cables, carb gasket and seal kits ready to fit, and gaskets and filter to do a service,

Just waiting for new choke plungers, float needle valves and idle screws to arrive

Whilst the seat is original to your bike it should be the stepped injection moulded jobbie !
If my memory serves Goldseal is about 25 quid a can. At work we normally fill tanks with vinegar and nuts and bolts, shake it about ( to the appropriate soundtrack - great for the waistline ), empty all out then jetwash the inside…allow to dry absolutely then in with the sealer…
Pm your location, am out and about in van, if I think I may be comin near I’ll let you kno…

Moved the optimate charger from one bike to the other, then waited for 5 minutes in the garage for the hail to stop

Another good way to remove rust from fuel tank is by electrolysis all you need is a pack of soda crystals a plastic container big enough to submerge the tank a bit of scrap steel to act as a sacrificial anode and a ordinary battery charge fasten the negative on the tank the positive on the sacrificial anode fill the container with water put 1 table spoon of soda crystal in the water for every 1 litre of water and mix ,this only acts as a electrolyte don’t allow the anode to touch the item you want to de-rust turn the battery charger on and leave for 24 hours and the rust will be remover from the item you want clean. you might need to turn the tank. if you want to do the inside of the tank you are best making a rubber bung to fit in the tank filler and inserting the anode in the centre of the rubber again making sure the anode does not touch the tank with the negative charging lead on it. I used this method on a Suzuki Tank a few weeks ago (wash my mouth out)

For G4Cats, there is a Le Mans tank on eBay at the mo.
